  • 13 Dec 2011 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, before I finish there is a looming demolition that is supposed to take place in Kibera, Soweto Village. Those people have been there for over 40 years, including the Nubians of Kibera. They have never been given title deeds. They are Kenyans. Right now, some people want to demolish those structures there in the pretext of slum upgrading. Does slum upgrading--- view

  • 13 Dec 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker. I tabled the same documents to the Committee together with the map. Therefore, the map is available. I can bring it tomorrow without any complication. view
  • 24 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) I am not aware that Lomut-Chemalei Water Project which is being funded by UNICEF, one of our development partners, has stalled. All I am aware of is that the construction commenced in December, 2010 and the project is ongoing. (b) My Ministry has not allocated any funds to Lomut-Chemalei Water Project. However, our development partner, UNICEF, is funding the project at a cost of Kshs18 million. (c) I cannot confirm that the project stalled as a result of misappropriation of funds, as the project is being executed outside our Ministry ... view

  • 16 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of information, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I want to enlighten the hon. Minister. The problem we have in this case is that about 10 per cent of land in Embakasi is claimed by the KAA. However, about 90 per cent of the houses that were demolished were outside the flight path. Why did they demolish the houses that were out of the flight path? view
  • 15 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: On a point of information, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. Everybody is aware that two weeks ago, bulldozers invaded Kiang’ombe Village without any notice and left about 100,000 people homeless. There was a court order. We have seen that there is a deliberate attempt to get rid of the poor people in Nairobi, including those in slums in Nairobi. Everybody should know that Nairobi belongs to all, including the people in the slums. We are not going to allow--- view
  • 15 Nov 2011 in National Assembly: Just a minute, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. This matter is more serious than some of us are thinking. There is already a plan to get rid of another ten villages. This is in preparation. These are Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Mukuru Kwa Reuben, Mitumba Village and Umoja III. Nairobians, whether they have titles or not, will not agree to this. Let everybody know that very soon these people will be out in the streets and Nairobi will be ungovernable, unless everybody’s rights are respected as is stated in the Constitution. view
