Florence Kajuju

Florence was at one point the vice chairperson of Law Society of Kenya (LSK). During her campaigns she overcame all odds to win against the strong Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) wave in her backyard. The impetus to seek a platform to represent the people of Meru was created by the pro bono cases she undertook in the years she practiced law in Meru.

  • 17 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, let me start by thanking hon. Millie Odhiambo for this Private Members’ Bill. I agree with hon. Amina Abdalla when she said that Private Members’ Bills are a step beyond everything else. This is one Bill that came before our Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, and the Members of the Committee really appreciated the content, the language and the reason why hon. • 17 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Odhiambo had to bring the Victim Protection Bill, 2013. One of the things that I appreciate in this Bill is that it allows the victims of crimes an opportunity to get justice. view
  • 17 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, much as I made my submissions before the Committee, it is important that hon. Millie realizes that we appreciate the effort that she has put into this Bill. Most importantly, what is unique about this Bill is that it creates the Victim Protection Trust Fund. For the first time, victims will be directly compensated by the offenders. This is a milestone that has been created by this Bill. These are some of the issues that I appreciate as a practitioner. Also, victims will be protected as a right in the Constitution, and as a right that the Government ... view
  • 3 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. While I appreciate what the Chairperson has attempted to do to answer the question, he has said that it is too early to speculate as to whether the attacks were targeting medical personnel or not. I would like to seek a clarification from the Chair as to why, if at all any action was taken by the police, after these two incidents, barely 25 days later in the same area a young man of 24 years was killed. The Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government is only participating in profiling criminals. Are they alleging ... view

  • 1 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. I appreciate the direction that you have given, but I am particularly concerned because over two weeks ago I requested for a Statement from the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security on the issues that are happening in Meru where two doctors were killed within a span of two weeks. As late as last week on 27th June, a young man was carjacked with his father and he was brutally killed. view
  • 1 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, yesterday I was in Meru County and there were demonstrations there against the security system. Business is at a standstill in Meru. People are living in fear. I think it is important that we get some response from this Committee so that we are able to see what to do when we go back there. This is because human life is sacred and any person who takes the life of another--- view
