Florence Kajuju

Florence was at one point the vice chairperson of Law Society of Kenya (LSK). During her campaigns she overcame all odds to win against the strong Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) wave in her backyard. The impetus to seek a platform to represent the people of Meru was created by the pro bono cases she undertook in the years she practiced law in Meru.

  • 1 Aug 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Chairlady, I believe this is a House that has hon. Members. We have come to this House to play the three roles that have been bestowed upon us by the people of Kenya. One of the components of legislation is the passage of the VAT Bill. Since we came into this House after elections, we have exercised a lot of patience and we have waited for too long for our welfare to be taken care of. I cannot imagine that waiting for one more month or a few more weeks is going to kill the spirit of this House. ... view
  • 25 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: On a point of order, hon. Deputy Speaker. I think as much as we require more induction, we also need some training on the use of language, because I do not foresee a situation where a Member will imagine that one Member is out of his mind, which means he is insane in medical terms. But over and above that, it is important that we realise that this is the Legislative arm of the Government. When need arises to ask the Cabinet Secretaries to appear before the Committees – that is why we elect Chairpersons – they will be fully ... view
  • 24 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker and I would like to thank the Mover of the Motion and the Committee for this report that they have tabled before the House. I support the nominees and specifically Dr. Salome. I have looked at the report and I find that this is a lady who is extremely qualified and also in her life she has been awarded a Head of State commendation. That in itself speaks volumes and I believe that this is a lady who is going to ensure that they streamline the TSC as per the Constitution of Kenya. A ... view
  • 18 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, there is an issue of national importance that I think should be addressed as soon as possible by the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Education, Research and Technology whom I am seated next to and when she tried to respond to me, she did not convince me. Hon. Speaker, yesterday we got information that the teachers’ strike was called off. However, before that there was a directive by the Cabinet Secretary for Education that all public schools be closed. I have been getting a lot of inquiries from my constituents. They want to know what the status ... view
  • 17 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for this opportunity to speak. I also thank the Chairman, Departmental Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives for donating half a minute to me. There is a very important point that I want to raise before this debate is concluded. I support the Bill and the Motion. I also support the Majority Leader when he talks about extending the period for this Bill for one year. This is because as the Chair remembers, and you are my friend on this the ad hoc Committee on Miraa has 90 days to table its report. I ... view
  • 11 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: On a point of order, hon. Speaker, Sir. I respect my learned friend, hon. Obura. I went to school and I believe I received more learning than him, if that is how we were taught to speak in school. I have never been anyone’s stooge. The Jubilee Government has never and will never ever make any one a stooge. Each one of view
  • 10 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you hon. Deputy Speaker. Before I respond, I have been requested by hon. Nyasuna, hon. Tuya, and hon. Waititu, I donate a minute of my time to each and every one of them. Thank you. view
