Pursuant to Standing Order No.44(2)(c), I hereby request a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Environment and Natural Resources concerning the degrading state of Ngong and Nairobi rivers. These rivers are polluted with garbage, industrial liquid, toxic waste, agro-chemicals and petro-chemicals amongst many others. This situation has occasioned spread of waterborne diseases, loss of sustainable livelihoods, reduced unavailability and access to safe water which affects the livelihoods of Kenyans and further affects the sustainability and use of the environment.
