  • 24 Aug 2016 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise to support this Report and also make several observations. First and foremost, I appreciate the Committee’s findings, particularly in terms of the concessions made by the IEBC, in ensuring that there will be a dignified exit for the members of that commission. However, as is the practice of law, that will not stop any other processes where anybody has criminal culpability of being held responsible for any crime that might have been committed by people individually. I wish well those who will exit. Some have exited based largely on the premise of ensuring that ... view
  • 24 Aug 2016 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker Sir, it was wise and pragmatic for the leadership to realize that they had called us far too many times. I thought this recess was supplied so as to give us an opportunity to go into our fields. They must try to see if they can communicate so that we also limit the committee meetings so that people can go to the ground and be felt. Unless the leadership has very compelling reason to call us between today and the 20th September, 2016, I believe that the decision they made is wise. Let us now serve the ... view

  • 27 Jul 2016 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I felt compelled to speak. Makueni County is the county of my “twin” brother. Your Senator, Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr., was born exactly the same day like me on 23rd October, 1975. We are both lawyers. We are now Senators of this House and leaders in the coalition. Therefore, remain focused and true to the aspirations and dreams not only of your family and yourselves but also of the society. Younger politicians and people generally are looking to the youth as the future and hope of this country. As you move forward, make sure that you ... view

  • 13 Jul 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, like Sen. (Dr.) Khalwale, I commend the Senate Minority Leader for bringing up this issue. There is a template that we had in the resolution of the crisis in Liberia. The rebirth of the State of Liberia was done minus Charles Taylor. Could our Chairperson confirm that options are being explored to build South Sudan outside Riek Machar and Salva Kiir? Is the International community prepared to avert any potential genocide and prosecute those who have committed crimes so far? There was a bout of violence where crimes were committed. The fact that those crimes were not ... view
  • 13 Jul 2016 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I am a bit concerned by the point of order raised by Sen. Kembi-Gitura. Knowing him, he cannot just raise anything in abstract. Are there specific instances where people have entered Committee rooms or the Chamber while armed? Who are these people? Looking at stopping it in the future, can we first take action against them? As Sen. Wetangula has said, some of these fistfights could degenerate into gun battles. If there are people who are traversing the corridors of Parliament and the Senate with guns--- In fact, I do not think ... view
