  • 27 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I support the amendment. A lot has been said, but it is also important when somebody is recognized, you need to know what they have done. I think this version has brought that one out. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor. view
  • 26 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker and let me start by appreciating the hard work that this Committee has done particularly our Chairman who sometimes I may refer to as a slave driver in jest because of how much he has pushed us to get the work done. Also, let the Committee appreciate the sentiments that you expressed the other time on getting reports late from Treasury. The Committee has had to work extremely hard at odd times to get the work done in time. Hon view
  • 20 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. The family unit is the basic unit of a nation and as other Members have said, if we do not have a strong unit at that level, we have all the problems in the society. Many of the problems of integrity, probably, we could solve at that level. The basis of that unit is marriage. If the marriage is proper and well defined, then it will lead to a strong family unit. I am happy that this Bill has come, and I support it, because it is one of the ... view
  • 20 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: of polygamy in traditional marriages, but I support the need to inform the spouses that one is intending to get into polygamy. Maybe the issue of seeking consent may be a bit too much, but I do not think it is fair that somebody just wakes up in the morning and finds that they are now in a polygamous marriage, even if it was potentially so at the time it was conceived. So, that is important. In reality, people say that traditionally nobody informed their spouses when they were getting married, but I know in our tradition, you were expected ... view
  • 18 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. This is a good thing that has happened. However, I just want to point out that if you look at the amendments that were made - in my mind - they all actually tended to be a bit retrogressive and not in line with the spirit of the Constitution. The amendments removed the participation of the youth through the council. They removed the consultations with the Committee and the capacity building and so on going to the centre without the provision of equity. Despite all that, I think this is a great thing that has ... view

  • 18 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, this is a situation in the country where people have held very many views. I do not see why my personal view should be taken so seriously. That is a personal view, hon. Deputy Speaker. view
  • 13 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. Let me also start by thanking the LSK for its democratic process, So often as perhaps required by the law, they hold their elections and they seem to be pretty peaceful. view
  • 13 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: I also notice that the public interest that the LSK has shown when we have issues that are of national importance, particularly when the constitutional process was going on and even during the process of devolution is good. view
  • 13 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Professionals are the heart and soul of a society. I say that because professions by definitions are practised in accordance with a solid body of knowledge that is certified and is researched into. view
