  • 4 Dec 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I want to inform the House that yesterday and the day before yesterday, we had some very good meetings with the Media Council. We came to some kind of compromise and agreement. This morning, we met the CIC and the Office of the Attorney-General, so that we could look at the amendments proposed by the Committee. Indeed, the CIC termed some of them unconstitutional. That notwithstanding, I realise that we do not have the requisite numbers today. Accordingly, I wish to withdraw these amendments in totality. I hereby withdraw all the Departmental Committee’s amendments. view

I want to beg your indulgence and request that you defer Order No.10 and No.11 (i). The reason being that the Committee, in the last two days, has been engaging the media stakeholders and I am happy to report that we have actually found a compromise. As we speak, even today at 5.00 p.m. we are meeting so that we can fine tune what we have agreed, so that we can thereafter consult the CIC and Attorney- General to make sure that whatever we are ... view
  • 3 Dec 2013 in National Assembly: Yes, I really want to thank you very much hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for that direction. I would request Members to avail themselves tomorrow at 2.30 p.m. so that if we can get the 233 Members in the House, we will be able to move together in the same direction, and I will really be very happy. Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. view
  • 28 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you hon. Speaker Sir. The committee has designated one of its Members, hon. (Eng) Rege, to answer this question on behalf of the committee. view
  • 19 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, just before you put that particular Question, I think we are actually going to perhaps make a little mistake somewhere which might prove a little bit costly to us. I want to refer you to Regulation 15(4). view
  • 19 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, the total number of ward representatives shall have equal number of either gender. If we say that we will have a maximum or a minimum of five--- view
  • 19 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: I am talking about the regulations, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir. That is on page seven of the regulations. Regulation 15(4) which says, “The total number of ward representatives shall have equal number of either gender with the women quota providing for, at least, one female youth.” You are talking about equal number of ward representatives. view
