  • 1 Apr 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, I want also to speak about the IDPs. When the Jubilee Government took over, there were still many IDPs. The Government got committed and they have resettled quite a number. I want also to say that, there is commitment to resettle more. I want to appreciate that the President indicated that the process is ongoing. I want also to indicate to the Government that it is also important to look at the historical issues of squatters in this country. Other than the IDPs, there are people who are suffering in silence. There are people who are squatters ... view
  • 24 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. South Sudan is one of the most important countries in the emerging markets. view
  • 24 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. South Sudan is one of the key emerging markets for our economy, the economy of Africa and the economy of the world in general. It is worrying when we see a country which has been developing very well going down the drain. Very many of our people who are either working there or doing business are at risk. view
  • 24 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: We know when the problem started in South Sudan quite a number of citizens of that country including the citizens of Kenya and other countries who had invested heavily in that country lost a lot of property. We cannot sit as brothers and sisters of that country and watch as they kill each other. I want to summarise by saying that it is really sad for Africans to lose humanity by butchering each other and yet we have a responsibility to protect humanity. As a responsible country, we will support that Kenya moves into South Sudan to help restore peace. view
  • 24 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, it is also worrying that a country which had a lot of hope is losing focus. Therefore, we will support the deployment of our KDF. We hope that it will not take a lot of time before we release them because the more we delay the more this country gets into more trouble. view
  • 24 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I want to commend our President Uhuru Kenyatta because of the role he played in trying all means to bring peace. I was really moved when our own President took time and travelled to that country in an effort to bring peace and harmony. We want to urge the leaders of that country to put humanity into perspective and agree to put peace as a priority. This is because a country without peace is not a country. With those few, remarks, I want to say I support the deployment of KDF to South Sudan to bring peace there ... view
  • 19 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this chance to speak to this very important Bill. I want to start by saying that VAT is a very important element in the revenue of this country and, therefore, there should be a lot of concerted effort in terms of balancing the collection as well as taking care of the welfare of Kenyans. From the outset, we know that the 2013 VAT Bill was really brought in with a lot of intent but, at the end of the day, it has brought a lot of suffering to some people, especially the ... view
  • 19 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: very expensive and most of the farmers, especially in my constituency, stopped concentrating on poultry farming because poultry feeds are very expensive. I want to say that if you look at vegetable farming, I agree that things like seeds, herbicides and pesticides are very expensive. VAT makes it very costly for small scale farmers to concentrate on farming. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I come from a county which is really known for growing a lot of green tea in this country. If you look at the Value Added Tax Act now, you will find that it actually taxes unprocessed green ... view
  • 19 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: We have heard proposals by the hon. Members from the sugar belt about the transportation of sugarcane from the farms. Likewise, transportation of tea is taxable but when you are exporting tea because the bulk of our tea is being exported, it is not taxed. Therefore, it does not make sense to tax transport from the farms. view
  • 19 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, there is something else which has been proposed which I really like. I know that in this country quite a number of times, when it is dry, we lack fresh produce from the farmers because of lack of enough water to do irrigation. We have many boreholes in my constituency which are not operating now because electricity is very expensive. Other than exempting water drilling from paying tax, I want to say that there is a problem in our electricity management. It is high time the Government audited the bodies which manage electricity in this country. ... view
