  • 8 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to take this opportunity to thank the hon. Members who have contributed to this Motion. I appreciate the very deep sentiments they have raised. I want to assure them that we have taken note of the very important issues they have raised. Those issues will form part of our continued discussion on this very important subject. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is clear from the contributions of hon. Members that there is need to deliberate, design development and implement a system that will help, rather than hinder, pro-poor economic development for this ... view
  • 1 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, could the Minister tell this House what he thinks of the people who are dying as the Government waits to get these funds? Will he ever compensate their families as he waits for funds to come? The Ministry had assured them that they will be assisted. However, some of them are dying while waiting for that assistance. view
  • 25 Oct 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the following Motion:- THAT, cognisant of the fact that the poor, especially women and other vulnerable groups suffer marginalisation in their struggle to have access to economic resources owing to the inequitable legal frameworks currently in place; further aware that there is need to encourage investment and promote enterprise in rural and urban areas targeting these vulnerable groups; this House do grant leave to introduce a Community Social Enterprise Bill in order to provide entrepreneurial skills and financial support for these socially excluded groups. • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I want to congratulate Prof. Oniang'o, one of the best brains we have in this country in food security, for bringing this Motion to the House. I would like to tell the Minister that adequate food supply is a human rights issue and this Government has signed the Human Rights Charter. Therefore, the Minister should take this matter very seriously. A country that has hunger and famine is a country that lacks programmes for its people. Hunger can be seen physically and it is also hidden. Here in Kenya, we have both August ... view

  • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, he was not listening. Silos should be built where food is required. The surplus food in Western Province can be transported and stored in the areas where it is required. This is very important. The Minister should embark on that programme. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I support the Motion. view
  • 1 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to support the Minister for Local Government. I congratulate him for what he is achieving for this country. Local authorities are manned by very important people. Councillors are important politicians in this country. Those people can add a lot of value to the development of this country if they are properly mandated to do their jobs. I would like to ask the Minister for Local Government to evaluate the work of the councillors and find out whether they are properly utilised. Councillors know the local problems ... view
