  • 14 Jul 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, we are always very happy in the Senate to receive the kind of visitors that we have today, both from our schools but, more so, from the Meru County Assembly. I join you in welcoming the very strong delegation from my county, Meru County. I am personally known to all the visitors in your Gallery today. I think this is a very important exercise where our Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) come to learn from the Senate how they should conduct their business within county assemblies. This is one of the very many delegations which have visited ... view
  • 14 Jul 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I hope that they take their time to learn and tell their colleagues back at home that, indeed, they learnt from the Senate that the primary role of the MCA is that of oversight. view

  • 6 Jul 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank you for moving with speed regarding the Committee on the IEBC. The Standing Orders say that you may deal with the matter forthwith in the manner that you have done. It is worthy to note that the two co-chairs of that Committee are Members of this House; that is Sen. Orengo and I, I would like us to move with speed given the limited time that has been given to this Committee. The confusion I have is on the secretariat. Since this a joint Committee on both House, shall we rely on the Clerk of ... view
  • 6 Jul 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker Sir, I would like to ride on this request for statements. I was with the CS for Education in Meru County last week, where we got information that 12 schools within my county had their dormitories burnt. The CS ordered investigations regarding the 12 schools and it appears to be a nationwide problem. I suggest the CS be requested to appear before a special Kamukun ji of this House, instead of appearing before the Committee on Education or if the Committee on Education could invite all the Senators because I believe many of us have issues that we ... view
  • 6 Jul 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the issues raised by Members are very serious. Therefore, we would like to make a very comprehensive statement after consulting the various bodies that are in charge of the various issues that have been raised. We request for three weeks to enable us bring an appropriate answer to the House. view
  • 6 Jul 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, you know that I am a very obedient Chairman. The Statement will come in two weeks time. view
  • 5 Jul 2016 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. This is a very sad occasion that we must not trivialize. I would like to advise my younger brother to remove the log in his eye before he can see the speck in his brother’s eye. I want to thank our colleague, the Senate Minority Leader, for bringing this matter to the attention of this House. We are all shocked maybe even more than those who are shouting. This is because some of the victims are people we know. You have heard that the boda boda business person is from Tharaka-Nithi in Meru and ... view
