  • 12 Mar 2020 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, as the society changes, various methods of disposing the dead will have to be embraced. That is why crematoria may become important even to those who now feel that it is a taboo. The Fourth Schedule of the Constitution delegates funeral parlours and crematoria to county governments. However, due to mismanagement, corruption and inefficiencies by the NLC, these devolved units are not able to find public land to be set aside for public utilities, such as cemeteries and other facilities to honour those who have transitioned. Even replacing those that are already full is a great ... view
  • 12 Mar 2020 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I thank my colleagues; Sen. (Dr.) Musuruve, Sen. Were and Sen. (Dr.) Zani, for taking this even further and opening my mind around issues of tradition versus embracing new methods of interring the dead. They have also talked about issues to do with misuse and visualizing how disputes can be a nightmare particularly in cases when one may not manage to have more funding to rebury the dead. Some of the issues that have come up revolve around sensitisation of people to appreciate the new methods of interment, taking care of the environment and leaving more ... view
  • 11 Mar 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this chance to speak to this matter of great concern. Members of MUSCO are becoming helpless in their own country. It is quite unfortunate that these members have gone to the Cabinet Secretary, to courts and they have even looked for a liquidator. However, all of them have never assisted them. It is even quite unfortunate that the liquidator himself or the institution is actually deregistering the SACCO and wanting to sell the structure that has been put up by these SACCOs. Mr. Speaker, Sir, this is outright corruption. This rampant corruption ... view
  • 10 Mar 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I also join you in sending condolences to the people of Msambweni and the family of Hon. Dori. view
  • 10 Mar 2020 in Senate: Although I never met Hon. Dori, yesterday as we condoled with his family, I learnt that he did a lot of work in Msambweni in terms of education. The Governor enumerated a number of works that Hon. Dori had done in schools. Notable among them was building a school named after him. Hon. Dori has left a great legacy in that constituency. It pleased me more because he built a girls’ school. That is one man that was really “he for she” in terms fighting for equality. He has left a young family and in this case, I know that ... view
  • 10 Mar 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Cultures need to be respected. In the Muslim culture, you do not talk politics at a funeral. Whenever we go to funerals, we should respect the family of the deceased. He was a great gentleman and we ought not to politic at the time when we are condoling. I was even fascinated when the same hon. Dori allowed Sen. Nyamunga to take up just one slot of a very important project that has been going on in Kisumu County. We know the truth because we asked Sen. Nyamunga. He gave the opportunity to her instead ... view

  • 5 Mar 2020 in Senate: NOW THEREFORE, the Senate calls upon the county governments to ensure that funds are allocated in the County Annual Development Plans (CADP) for Financial Year 2020/2021, towards the planning and development of cemetery, funeral parlours and crematory facilities. Thank you. view
  • 5 Mar 2020 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker Sir. I rise, pursuant to Standing Order 47(1), to make a Statement on a matter of general topical concern, namely interventions to address the challenges brought about by diabetes in Kenya. As you may be aware, the number of Kenyans living with diabetes is rising and deaths from the disease have doubled in the last three decades, according to statistics. A report by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2016, suggests that one in every 17 Kenyans is diabetic and the International Federation (IF) data figures show that there were 458,900 diabetes cases in 2017.
