  • 7 Nov 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, after I responded to the Statement by Sen. Wamatangi, on the issue of pollution of rivers by sewage from Nairobi, this response generated more interest and you ordered that we visit the site which we did yesterday. I would like to report that what is happening at that site and, in fact, downstream is a national disaster. We saw raw sewage being poured into the river at a rate of 30,000 view

  • 6 Nov 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, as you may be aware, there was a petition on this matter of salaries. I would like to state here that while I will be able to give a Statement on the other part, the issue of salaries was dealt with comprehensively through that petition where the nurses and clinical officers petitioned this House. The Fourteen Falls pollution incident was reported to the Kiambu County Director of Environment on 24th of September, 2013. The Authority, together with the Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) carried out an inspection on 26th September, 2013, to find out the source of the pollution. The team visited Dandora Sewerage Water Works at Ruai, where it was noted there was very little effluent and some of the maturation points were drying up, which is an indicator that there was ... view
  • 5 Nov 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want the hon. Senators to really pay attention to this, as it is a very serious issue, because almost all the sewage from Nairobi, Lavington, western regions, the CBD, Parklands and Eastlands all converge at the trunk around Dandora, and that is the one that broke down spilling raw sewerage into the following rivers: Nairobi River, Athi River, Galana River and the Sabaki River; and it has been doing that from April, 2013. It is only in September this year; about five months later, that this team visited and discovered it. They further stated that the ... view
  • 5 Nov 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am happy that this issue is generating a lot of interest, because when I started answering, most of the Members were engaging in a bit of discussion amongst themselves. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to clarify the fact that the contractor is on site; the money is already available and it is not being sought. The only suggestion and recommendation we were giving – and we gave this earlier and I even saw Governor Kidero over this matter because it is as grave as that. So, we met and I actually pulled him out of his ... view
