  • 30 Mar 2017 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I rise to add a rider to what Sen. Abdirahman has said. This is an issue that needs urgent attention. In two weeks’ time, we would probably go for recess and this matter needs to be addressed, in order to assure the pastoralists and inform the people who are living in Laikipia on what the Government is intending to do to resolve the issue, once and for all. This is especially for us to interrogate whether the use of force is the only answer to the problem in Laikipia as it is causing more ... view
  • 30 Mar 2017 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. Sen. (Dr.) Khalwale should substantiate what he has said. Is he in order to insinuate? He is saying it in reference to another Jubilee Senator, whether she is also doing the same. That is insinuating and in bad light; speaking about another Senator in this House. Is Sen. (Dr.) Khalwale in order? view
  • 30 Mar 2017 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. Is it in order for the Chairperson, Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, to state that nobody has died? It is almost belittling the issue that we are trying to address in this House and reducing the importance of the Statement. We know that this has been one of the hardest hitting droughts in the recent past, especially in the counties that we come from and it should be given the importance and concern that it deserves. It does not just require people to die but even the starvation levels require ... view
  • 28 Feb 2017 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I also want to pass my condolences, together with the people Samburu County, to the immediate family, relatives and friends of the late Governor Gachagua. We pray that God gives them strength to continue to steer the county to greatness. My colleagues have talked about the aspect of healthcare in our country. I hope that those who are involved in the discussions towards the doctors returning back to work will expedite them. We need to deal with it as an urgent matter, because we know that many Kenyans are really suffering. I know of many cancer ... view
  • 28 Feb 2017 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. You have just ruled on this matter. I urge you to be firm for the same reason that you have stated; that this is a very emotive issue. It is a matter of life and death. Is it in order for two Senators in this House to engage each other, instead of giving us solutions on how we can stop the killings in that region? • 28 Feb 2017 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I take this opportunity to thank Sen. (Prof.) Lonyangapuo for bringing this Adjournment Motion. This is a very important Motion for us as a Senate and also as a country. It is very unfortunate when you read in the newspapers and watch the television and see the suffering on the ground especially of women and children. This is something that we have talked about over and over again as a country among pastoralist The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. • 23 Feb 2017 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, just riding on what Sen. Madzayo has said, the procedure, normally, is that you give the exact time and then if you are not ready you can request for more time. Having said that, I think this issue is very important and needs to be fast-tracked as it was mentioned. I know we are getting into the campaign period and it is important that we get information early---- The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. • 22 Feb 2017 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to also request you to give us more time. Definitely we know our Whips have the duty to whip us but also many of us who have an interest in this Bill will be able to whip our colleagues so that we can be able to vote on this matter. As interested parties, we tried to canvass and lobby outside this House, the other day and we will continue to do it and if possible kindly give us a date next week so that we can be able to push our colleagues. view
  • 5 Jan 2017 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I want to ask whether Sen. Ong’era is in order to continuously mislead this House. It is a narrative that is continuing to say that we rely on what we have heard out there. If we cannot rely on the media, how can we rely on the grapevine; that you have heard anyone discussing anywhere and we state it here almost sounding like a fact? This is a House of records and facts. view
  • 1 Dec 2016 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I rise on a point of order on how we work in this House. Just as you have said, the Committees Chairs respond to questions asked by Senators, and I believe that is what Sen. Obure is doing. He has a sole responsibility to answer questions regardless of whether any other leader is in the House. view
