  • 1 Nov 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I do not have immediate information regarding that particular part of the current Government selling Telkom Kenya to a foreign company. So, I wish to withdraw and continue with my deliberation. Mr. Speaker, Sir, the point I want to emphasize is that it is very risky for a country’s ICT backbone infrastructure to be controlled by foreigners. This means that we are exposed. Besides, when we talk about the digital infrastructure of this country, we cannot finish that conversation without talking about Telkom Kenya, which basically controls a large part of that infrastructure. Let me start by thanking the Mover, Sen. Wamatinga, for bringing this timely Motion to this House. As a House, we need to seek ways in which we can help our youth who are going through many challenges in repaying loans that they have received from various Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs), micro finance institutions and banks to start businesses in transport. I want to thank my colleague from Nandi County for bringing a Statement to this House on that matter. We cannot allow crook companies like Watu Credit to continue operating in this county and suffocating our youth who are suffering. Some of them have made savings to pay deposit for the motorcycles.
