I was only giving that as an example. I did not see you raise a question when she used the church to say how corruption is killing us. So, that was just but an example. I am not attacking teachers. I am a teacher myself and I know what I am talking about. Let us speak the truth.

Thank you, Hon. Speaker. Allow me to also take this opportunity to thank the President for his Address on the State of the Nation. I also thank God for bringing me back to this House after a very long time of absence following an accident last year. By and large, we all appreciate His Excellency the President for a well coverage of the issues that he addressed. However, I still have to express the following sentiments: Food security is one of the Big Four Agenda. Some people in this country are very well fed while others are very hungry like ...

we keep talking about food security, if we do not enable people to produce more food and save that food for days when we do not have we will never achieve this objective. My take on this is that beginning with Migori County where I come from and the people I represent here, we have good land and can produce enough food. However, most of the time, and I will allude to what one of my colleagues has said that the issue of fertiliser and the cost of production is high, and it is a hindrance. Most of the time, ...

Thank you very much, Hon. Speaker. I appreciate you for being gender sensitive. As mothers, we are keener on food issues than anybody else. I rise to support this Bill and add my voice to that of colleagues who have spoken. I think it is in the common or public domain that Kenyans struggle every year to produce food – all sorts of food ranging from vegetables to cereals to cash crops and so on. The greatest challenge that we have always had as a nation facing farmers is the post-harvest handling of agricultural produce. This Bill as outlined seems ...

They will transact business in a lighter way without having to look for transport to carry their produce to the market, back and forth, and end up raising the cost of production as opposed to raising their profit margins.

I really appreciate the drafter of this Bill because it looks fully comprehensive. It addresses the component of value chain management right from the farm up to the time those goods will be disposed in the market to the end users. I think it is a good Bill that if implemented, our farmers will have relief.

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. This House sometimes confuses Members. I was saying that if we allow farmers to be owners of their own produce in their own warehouses, then we will see a scenario where losses such as the ones that have been experienced in the past by members of the public, when the NCPB takes their produce and they are not paid on time, will not arise. We will encourage our farmers to be better managers of their own produce. I would, therefore, like to support this Bill and only request that upon its implementation, farmers are ...

Thank you Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman for giving me this chance. I rise to support the further amendment. All of us are aware that we have bank accounts and somebody may have an accident or die and the next of kin may not be known. As a result, it takes a lot of time for the people to be identified. The suffering that goes on in the family is enormous. So, it is important that all customers with bank accounts of whatever nature to declare their next of kin and the register should be updated regularly to eliminate funds accumulating ...
