Thank you, Hon. Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I rise to second the Motion that has been moved by my Chair. I want to tell this House that, indeed, the Committee did a lot of work, carrying out investigations and finding details,

especially on Ms. Abdi Leila. We have a lot of details that if the House is interested in… Because of time, I would wish that Members actually look at what we did. It is disturbing, I think for the first time in the history of this House that somebody would walk into such kind of interview or a panel with a document which was actually looking like a leaving certificate mentioning mock results, much as they were aware that their original certificates of their higher level of education were also required. And as my Chair puts it, we have so ...

nation. Each one of us will agree that much as we are young, energetic, and of whatever age, we came from a parent. As we grow, each parent also grows and they reach a level where they are weak and not able to support themselves. This always reminds me of a poem that I heard one of my little daughters and her school mates recite in 2007. They were saying: “Hold my little fingers today; tomorrow, I will hold yours”. That spoke volumes to me.

It is high time that as Kenyans, we learnt to be pragmatic and to genuinely want to support our elderly in this nation. Because of the many things that have happened, especially the pandemic of HIV/AIDS, giving an example of my own county, the elderly have been exposed to some new challenges that never existed before. Young men and women have died and have left their little children in the hands of their mothers and fathers most of who are jobless and have no strength. They have to provide for the orphans. They have to be breadwinners for the young ...

The elderly have been put on the cash transfer programme, which I heard the previous speaker mention. However, I think the programme offers too little money. One, it is supposed to be Kshs2,000 per month. Two, it is supposed to be given every two months, but the reality on the ground is not the same. The elderly, ladies and gentlemen never get the funds in time. As a House, we need to support, if possible, that the funds be increased. Much as most of the elderly people may be illiterate, I see them as a serious resource in our nation ...

was in this House. I was part of the team that passed that Bill. Much as the Hon. Members want to make it go on record; that the women did not care about that Bill, in the past, when this Bill was being debated and even at the Second Reading, quite a number of women participated in this Bill.

It is not fair that female Hon. Members should be crucified just because of that Bill. In any case, it should go on record that the women have really fought for this country and for those Bills that would support the participation of women in leadership. Many times, the male Hon. Members have shot those attempts down. So, it is good that today it goes on record that the male Members have come up to support the women, and we appreciate them. However, we request that this should not be the genesis for sacrificing women. The women have done much ...
