  • 8 Jul 2014 in Senate: Is the junior Senator from Elgeyo Marakwet County in order to insinuate that the CORD leaders caused panic in this nation when he is very well aware that it is his side who trumpeted that kind of propaganda, therefore, causing the nation to go into a panic? If you look at newspaper and media reports all through the last week, it is them who were propagating this fear-mongering to Kenyans that led to the kind of behaviour you saw. view
  • 8 Jul 2014 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the Senator for Kiambu County right to say that there was nobody speaking at Uhuru Park when I was on the podium at 11.00 a.m.? Is he further right to say that there were no people at Uhuru Park at 11.00 a.m., when there were people there? Did he watch and if he did not watch, was it because the event was not covered live and, therefore, he does not know the truth? view
  • 8 Jul 2014 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Far be it for me to want to interrupt my dear friend, Sen. Kagwe, but is he really in order to misinform the House that I expected the media houses to cover us free of charge? The point that I was making is that the warning given to the media houses stopped them from doing what they intended to do. view
  • 8 Jul 2014 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. My point of order is to my octogenarian Senator, G.G. Kariuki. Is it in order for him to misconceive what I said, misunderstand it and present it from his own confused perception? view
  • 19 Jun 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to lay the following Paper on the Table of the House today, Thursday, 19th June, 2014. Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on Legislation on Harambee or voluntary contributions. view
  • 19 Jun 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I stand to support this Bill by the young Sen. Wangari. I want to reiterate the point that Sen. Murkomen was making about the role of political parties in exercising what I call proportional representation, not just in counties, but in Parliament as well. This word “nomination” is, perhaps, having a funny connotation. I think what we are trying to do in this process, according to the Constitution, is some amount of proportional representation; that parties nominate people according to certain criteria proportionally in line with their strength either in the county assemblies or in the National ... view
  • 11 Jun 2014 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I beg to support this Motion and to thank the Chairperson and the Vice Chairperson for having reversed the roles; they moved and seconded this Motion very ably and in an extremely informative manner. I am always very proud of my former student. I think what everybody has said confirms the faith I had in him right from the very beginning. I do hope that one of these days; he will establish what I call a leadership training centre to pass on these qualities to younger Kenyans who should inherit what we have here. ... view
  • 10 Jun 2014 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I want to contribute to this Bill. For one, we should be honest. Alcohol has been with human beings since time immemorial. When Jesus was on the cross and suffering; one of the things they did to him was to put alcohol in this mouth. The assumption was that this would reduce the pain and make him a little more comfortable. That was not a very good idea at that point in time but nonetheless, it was done. There is a Latin saying; in vino veritas, which means, in wine lies the truth. So, ... view
  • 9 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, yesterday during the Motion on Adjournment on a matter of national importance, which I had requested for, I was, indeed, asked to substantiate on a matter regarding the attendance of a meeting at Serena Hotel on Wednesday last week, the 2nd of July, 2014. I would like to really clarify because it must be relevant to that meeting. This meeting was organized by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) and the invitations were sent to selected officials of the media, particularly editors and officials of the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG). The invitations stated, among other things that:- ... view
