  • 14 Aug 2024 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I did not want to shout over my colleague from Machakos County. Nonetheless, I thought she was misleading the public by creating the impression that if a matter is dealt with in committee, the public cannot follow. The Constitution requires that Parliament and all its committees allow the public to follow in their proceedings. Even in impeachments done by committees, there was still live coverage of those proceedings, which were open to the public. I thought that was a misleading statement. view
  • 8 Aug 2024 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, in that very same breadth, allow me to support the Statement issued by Sen. Cherarkey. In my other capacity, I am the Secretary General (SG) of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), a party that has suffered the brunt of some of the things that Sen. Cherarkey is referring to. There was a public confession one time by the former Senator for Nairobi, hon. Mike Sonko, on what they used to do in order to paint the ODM party as a violent party, whenever we would want to exercise our rights under Article 37. He revealed this culture ... view
  • 8 Aug 2024 in Senate: I am saying that I am happy and I support him. Nobody should fetter on any other person’s right to peacefully protest. It does not matter what your cause is. I do not have to agree with your cause. If I do not agree with your cause, let me sit at home and wait for the causes that I agree with to take me to the streets. view
  • 8 Aug 2024 in Senate: I have heard people sing praises about the Cabinet Secretaries that have been appointed. I was a bit disappointed with the ones who were re-appointed, especially in the security sector. This is because I do not believe that we are going to see any change in philosophy. We need to see police reforms and secure these rights under the Constitution. If the same brains are the ones that were present when we were seeing goons in Kapsabet and Kakamega, what expectation do we have that something will change? Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to say this as the Senator for ... view
  • 8 Aug 2024 in Senate: What is it that happens between talent at the grassroots and them being able to make it all the way to the national stage and even international stage? You heard the story of the runner from Makueni. We have frustrated our own people. I cannot begrudge anybody who will want to go and look for opportunity elsewhere for as long as you are able to express your talent. To this effect, I want to beg Members of this House; I have sponsored a Bill to amend the Sports Act. Initially, the Sports Act was supposed to bring some sort of ... view
  • 8 Aug 2024 in Senate: On a point of order, Madam Temporary Speaker. view
  • 8 Aug 2024 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, it has been the tradition that when people read their Statements, they should allow other people who have not spoken to contribute. He read five Statements and now he wants to comment on another Statement. He should allow other people in the queue to also contribute. That is not proper. view
  • 7 Aug 2024 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is always a pleasure to welcome students from Starehe Boys' Centre. As I have said previously, this is an Institution whose reputation actually goes without saying. The Director, Josphat Mwaura, continues to do a good job. I was very happy and proud that just last week, one of the more prominent alumni of Starehe Boys' Centre was actually nominated by my party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to chair the very powerful Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in the National Assembly. So, I am sure that even in the delegation that is here today, we will be ... view
  • 7 Aug 2024 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I know you told me to limit myself to Starehe Boys Centre, but also, these young ladies from Keveye Girls need to know that I went to Musingu High School and we were very close friends during the time that I was there. view
  • 7 Aug 2024 in Senate: We were very good friends and neighbours as schools of Musingu High School and Keveye Girls. I am talking on a day that I am very proud of my alma mater because we have just qualified for the National Football Finals. We encourage all these young students here that when you see us here, we also just came from the village. We are not angels from anywhere, we just took our time in school to focus on our education and these days, we have big titles such as lawyers and Senators. I pray that you will follow the same path ... view
