  • 22 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Even as we talk about the operations of the police, we also need to empower the IPOA to look at the plight of police officers. It is indeed true that some police officers are suffering. You can understand this by looking at some police officers’ lines, like Administration Police (AP) lines. I look at police officers in my constituency. You may need some AP officers to man a certain area but you cannot provide for them. You cannot pay their rent. You have not built houses for them. There is no recurrent expenditure that is so frequent. You tell police ... view
  • 22 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: The IPOA should go an extra mile, as the law says, but not just to look at the plight of view
  • 22 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: . They should equally look at the plight of police officers, who are suffering across the board. Some of them are frustrated by their bosses. An officer is assigned night vigil everyday because the boss has interest in his wife. These things are real. Some of them end up killing each other because they do not have a channel through which to report their plight. Their interior disciplinary mechanism is also manned by their very own seniors. Some of them schooled together and went through the same training. We need to move with speed and approve these names, so that ... view
  • 22 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Hon. Charles is telling me that I need to proceed because I am making a lot of sense. He is a son of a former policeman, and he feels that this is right. I can see that my time is over. With those few remarks, I support and pray that we approve these nominees. view

  • 15 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: I am not very sure the Member is on the right Motion. He is talking about services and facilities, which is Order No. 14, instead of tabling the report on the benchmarking visit to the UK. Probably there is a mix-up of these reports or he is overwhelmed by work. He has got two reports to present and he is confused on which one to start with. view
  • 9 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I equally rise to oppose this report. It is very important not to allow ourselves as Members of Parliament to be used, just like one of my colleagues mentioned. Going by the Report, the vagueness it displays, right from the content all through to the recommendations, shows clearly that the Committee did not understand the question that was raised earlier. You notice that the Committee questioned various CSs who gave all right channelled answers. They questioned the CS for Interior, the CS for Agriculture and the CS for Trade and they all agreed that there was ... view

  • 8 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. The Speaker has ruled five minutes and I will be quite brief. I, first, want to appreciate you for noticing me today. It is not very easy. I rise to support this Motion. I sat in the Committee that vetted all the nominees for appointment as high commissioners and ambassadors by His Excellency the President. It was notable that there were so many speculations outside here, especially with regard to some nominees. view
