  • 28 May 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to add a rider on the question asked by Sen. Kagwe. To date, there is no substantive Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). We would really like to know when we are going to have a substantive Governor of the CBK who will go a long way to stabilize the depreciating Shilling. We want somebody who will give direction. view
  • 27 May 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, this afternoon, you ruled that professors are strange people and sometimes, they behave strangely and say strange things. I think we should excuse Professor this afternoon because this is one such occasion where he has behaved a bit strangely and mentioned some strange things. We will give him a chance to apologise to the House. view
  • 26 May 2015 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I would like to know from the Chairperson whether what is being contested in Burundi is clear. I know the Senate Minority Leader has said that the statement issued by the Head of State was bizarre, but I do not think it was so, because I think the whole situation is bizarre. President Nkurunzinza is claiming that he is not running for the third time because the first time he was in power in Burundi it was by an arrangement and not via an election and that this time he wants run for a second time ... view

  • 20 May 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, three weeks ago I requested for a Statement from the Chair of the Committee on Agriculture regarding the arrest and confistication of ivory in Thailand. My concern was the fact that ivory was found packaged along with packets of tea leaves. Two days ago, another consignment of ivory was arrested in Singapore and once again, the Ivory was concealed in package of tea leaves. In this situation tea has continued to be used as packaging material for contrabands like ivory. I want to further request that a Statement be issued on this recent consignment of ivory which ... view
  • 20 May 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the issue of smuggled ivory is of big concern in this country and I am sure it is a security issue also. It is also a huge economic issue and the fact that this country is dealing with corruption at the moment, I expect somebody to take responsibility and be prepared to issue a thorough answer which will cover all the issues that I have raised. So, two weeks will be okay. view
  • 19 May 2015 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I also want to support the Motion that has been brought by Sen. Abdirahman. The ratings that appeared in the newspapers today morning were very shocking and, indeed, to a large extent, very annoying. These studies are useful because they help to form an opinion of either a group or society. view
  • 19 May 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, since I do not believe in the study that was carried out, I will leave it to the readers to see what number Bomet County was. However, I believe in studies and the results. I strictly disagree with the method that was used to carry out the study. Infotrak has done studies before. If you look at these studies, you will see that they did not conform at all to the methods that we use to collect information scientifically. For example, the sampling process is undefined. They have not indicated the confidence levels they have used. ... view
  • 14 May 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, let me first of all thank the Chairman and the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Foreign Affairs and International Trade for acting speedily. The issues that are going on are also fast but we all understand that the Kenyan and Burundian soldiers are serving together in Somalia. I would like the Chairman to tell this House the implications of the relationship between the soldiers of Kenya in Somalia and those of Burundi, should Kenya take any of the sides in this conflict in Burundi? view
