  • 19 Aug 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, now, we have two districts. Originally, it was one. The basis of my point is that we are not just looking at Mbita or Suba; we are looking at all the districts in the country. This particular district, Mbita, we are already considering it among the districts to be given funding to build the law courts. For Suba District, once land is availed, it will be considered for allocation of funding by the Ministry. view
  • 19 Aug 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, this is a new district and the consultation to know whether land is available or not is an issue that should rest with the leadership of Suba District. It is true that when a district is created, they have to provide land to build the services either the district headquarters or the law courts or any other departmental heads offices. So, it really follows that when a district is created, land is availed. We are waiting for them to confirm so that we include them in the list of the institutions or the districts to be considered ... view
  • 19 Aug 2009 in National Assembly: This is a good proposal but I do not want to make commitments which I am not able to deliver. We will consider that proposal and be able to consider if it is possible and attainable within this financial year--- view
  • 19 Aug 2009 in National Assembly: We can give them a magistrate when there is a court. view
  • 19 Aug 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, we undertake to give the Statement on Wednesday, next week. view
  • 5 Aug 2009 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I beg to reply. view
  • 5 Aug 2009 in National Assembly: (a) The Government appreciates that Migori District and the newly created district of Nyatike are in need of court services. The judiciary is currently constructing a High Court at Migori District Headquarters at a cost of Kshs31,562,582. view
  • 5 Aug 2009 in National Assembly: (b) The Judiciary will consider constructing a law court in the new district of Nyatike as soon as land for that purpose is allocated and funds secured. view
  • 5 Aug 2009 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I am unable to give a specific date when the construction of that High Court will be completed. All I can confirm is that the project is on-going. I believe that it will be completed as soon as possible. view
  • 5 Aug 2009 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, as I have said, Nyatike is one of the new districts that were created recently. It is for the leadership within the new district to allocate land for court services and other services that are required in the district. It is not the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice, National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs to provide land. However, we will support in the construction of the court and ensure that the staff are posted there. view
