Hon. Deputy Speaker, thank you for giving me a chance to make remarks on this Petition. I appreciate that the matter that has been petitioned this morning is very serious to the local communities that are affected. The efforts that have been made to address this matter have been fruitless. The NEMA has seen this country undergo a lot of costly consequences upon approval of most of the projects to be implemented. As this matter is being discussed by the respective Committee, I recommend that NEMA should also be seriously interrogated to find out why it takes too long to ...

Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, we are talking of taking money from employees and yet over the years, we have seen the challenges the Government finds itself in. I am talking of a situation where even employees’ statutory deductions made by employers are never submitted. We need to protect the interest of our employees. For that reason, I am made to believe that we are yet to demonstrate a case that calls for further contributions from employees. I object.

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I would like to contribute to this Motion that touches on a very important group in our society, namely, people living with disabilities. Supporting the establishment of special units in schools for children living with disabilities should be a priority. For a number of years, Kenya has been claiming to be one of the countries that support persons living with disabilities. The various schools are located far away from most areas. For example, in Kisii County, we do not have a recognisable school for children living with disabilities, primary or secondary school. So, most ...

So, this Motion is timely. We need to integrate our children with disability in all primary schools, but also provide the necessary resources. I am a Member of the Departmental Committee on Education and Research and this is something that we have taken seriously. Although the budget this year may not have reflected adequate and specific allocation for this The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. Acertified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor.

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this Report. Upfront, this is a step in the right direction presented in a fairly fragmented way. Looking at it, I see a number of grey areas that emerge, but sometimes overlapping, because of the way the Report has been prepared and presented. I wish to see the key observations on forest management coming out clearly in a more synthesised form. The second part will look at the logging activities, observations and recommendations. That will be better in guiding us. Let me ask something that I ...

forestry but we are expanding it to provide forest cover. It is causing a lot of damage to the water systems. What can we do? What should the Ministry advise farmers to do? We also have bamboo that has begun to be grown in Kenya. We can have bamboo as an alternative in some of the services that can be obtained from the eucalyptus tree that we know as a killer of the water system. Looking at the Report, I see an ingredient that would create a big change in the forest cover in this country. Having everybody to engage ...

Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I would like to make some reaction. I want to thank the Committee for giving us an update on their progress. I also would like to register my disappointment on the rate at which this matter is being handled. The issue of sugar being poisonous is a national and international issue because it affects the main and important part of life. It is about people’s lives; it is about the kind of guests we expect in this country. Other than the challenges it poses on the industries, it also affects key sectors like tourism in this ...
