  • 24 Jun 2014 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Speaker. I spoke on a similar Motion last week. I would like to thank the Mover of this Motion for Adjournment for he cares about this nation. Last week, I said that I am very sad as a mother of this nation because we are giving birth to people who are killing themselves. The mothers feel very pained. The world is watching us and Kenyans are watching us. I have a lot of faith in this House. We have never quarreled in the Senate. If we are really true patriots, we should prove to Kenyans that we ... view
  • 24 Jun 2014 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, unless we are pretenders, if we are really Kenyan leaders, where most of you are elected by your people, we should serve the people of this country truthfully without lying to ourselves because it boils down to us, as leaders. We are denying this country very many good things. Our economy is not very good and we have scared international tourists from coming to Kenya. I was in Swahili Beach in Mombasa. There were only five patrons, yet we know that this country is the hub for tourism. It is time we really asked ourselves where ... view
  • 18 Jun 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I also join my colleagues in sending my heartfelt condolences to the family of our departed friend and father Gen. Mulinge. I knew him personally. He loved this country and he was a selfless man. He always put the country first. His story will tell itself because he saved this country. He did not put himself first. He averted two attempted coups because he was not greedy. I only wish others can emulate such good character of the general that we have lost. He also molded the army to the status that we are proud of today. ... view
  • 18 Jun 2014 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. From the outset, I would like to commend the Mover of this Motion and also congratulate you for being in the Chair. I have not spoken before when you are in the Chair. I am happy that I have caught your eye. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, this Motion has come at a very appropriate moment, because it conforms to the mandate of the Senate on devolved systems. Devolution will be a reality if we start to implement and introduce this very worthy metropolitan security in our capital City. Nairobi being the capital City of ... view
  • 17 Jun 2014 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I also join my colleagues in sending my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families in Mpeketoni. Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is a very sad day for this country; it is a very sad day for Kenya. As we are mourning the loss of our people, I want to say that all of us are God’s creation. Life is sacred. Therefore, it has to be protected in all manners possible. Those who are behind this massacre have to know that it is evil, it is a sin and it is not acceptable. As a mother, I ... view
  • 11 Jun 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to seek a Statement from the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Land and Natural Resources on wildlife crime, particularly the poaching of elephants and rhinos that has become rampant in Kenya and strengthening the ecosystem. The Statement should state the number of rhinos and elephants that have been killed so far. State and explain the measures that the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has put in place to arrest wildlife poaching, in particular, the poaching of elephants and rhinos which has continued to skyrocket. Mr. Speaker, Sir, in my county, we had animals ... view
  • 11 Jun 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, when I asked them to state the number of rhinos and elephants that have been killed so far, surely, so far, they can go back as far as Independence if he wants to, but my interest is to know how many are there. view
  • 10 Jun 2014 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I would like to congratulate the Mover of this Bill and to say that it has come an appropriate time when a lot of bad incidences have taken place in our country. I would like to propose some amendments which will make the Bill meaningful and address the issues in our society. Alcoholism is a social problem. What am I saying? People can enjoy their drinks in social gatherings; however, they should not become abusive or kill themselves through drinking. If we have to legalise drinking, then we have to put in some measures. ... view
  • 4 Jun 2014 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would like to thank the Mover of this Bill. I am happy that it will still go through the Committee Stage because there is a lot that we need to harmonize. For the short time that we have been here, it has been a learning process. Some of us who had a chance of visiting our counties, we realized that devolution is at work and the Senate has a role to play. For example, when we went to Elgeyo-Marakwet, we could see the inconvenience as a result of the distance between the headquarters of the ... view
