It is a college of Kenya Ports Authority under the Ministry of Transport. For that matter, I would request that this Question be directed to the relevant Ministry. view

  • 6 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) The Ministry appreciates the work the community plays in ensuring the sustainability of the fisheries resources. Their participation is in line with Article 69(2) of the Constitution which obligates every person to co-operate with the State organ or any person to protect the environment and ensure ecological sustainable development and use of natural resources. Beach Management Units (BMUs) are the grassroots institutions enabling communities to participate in fisheries management as outlined in the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries.   • 6 Sep 2012 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir we appreciate the role of the BMU officials. They are not only protecting fisheries, but also controlling the damage to our environment. We will consider that when we have enough funds to give them allowances. I undertake to communicate with other relevant agencies where they render services so that they consider them. view

They are co-managers of fisheries activities together with the fisheries officers of the department. Some allowances are paid to them although it is very little, but we do not have any other fund to allocate them. view

However, I am aware of some challenges that the project faced and is still facing in Mutomo. These are:- (i) persistent water shortage in the constituency; (ii) shortage of staff; and (iii) shortage of funds for pond liners.
