  • 7 Nov 2018 in National Assembly: Political party independence, which is very important, is based on its funding. A political party which does not have funds cannot be independent. It will always look for a way of surviving. There are regulations which say that we must have 24 offices in 24 counties in this country. To run one office of a political party requires enormous amount of money but the regulation says that you must have 24 offices. Just imagine a party like mine, the EFP, which is being forced to come up with 24 political party offices in this country. I have only five Members ... view
  • 7 Nov 2018 in National Assembly: The idea of funding political parties from public coffers is a way of reducing corruption. We used to have political party leaders who, because of the amount of monies they used to have, the sources of those funds notwithstanding, you had to go by their whims if you were to survive The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. • 7 Nov 2018 in National Assembly: politically. If not, you had no room in politics. In order to avoid corruption and dependence on a few individuals with deep pockets, the idea of funding political parties from public coffers was embraced in Kenya. view
  • 7 Nov 2018 in National Assembly: With those remarks, I support the adoption of the Report as I request my able Chairman to ensure some of the sentiments coming up on the Floor of this House are addressed. view
  • 24 Oct 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I stand to support this Motion. It is very vital that we have adequate space for all schools in the country. My colleague and friend just said that land is not a problem in ASAL areas. What is happening is that all of a sudden, pastoralists are leaving the pastoral lands and settling in settlement areas in big numbers. School land is normally located in very strategic areas and there is a scramble for school land. Just last weekend when I was in my constituency, we were together with the sub-county commissioner trying to solve ... view
  • 24 Oct 2018 in National Assembly: will not grow, but the population will continue to grow. The demand for land and education will continue to grow. Therefore, it is my suggestion that in areas where we have plenty of land, we come up with legislation and policies and procedures to get adequate land for future expansion. In areas where land is already a problem, this is the right time for the Government to acquire land and compensate the owners before the prices of land escalate in the next, maybe, 10 years, when it might not be affordable at all even to get an acre. It is ... view
  • 9 Oct 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I support this Report. We need to think outside the box and see how best to come up with strong Pan- Africanism. Most developed countries such as the USA exist because they came together, mobilised their resources and talents and that is why they can manipulate other upcoming countries. That is why people like Gadaffi had to die. It is because he was coming up with a strong mission and vision. Maybe, if he was alive by now, we could have been quite far ahead as far as Pan- Africanism is concerned. view
  • 9 Oct 2018 in National Assembly: However, before we look at the bigger picture of Pan-Africanism, let us look at the Kenyan tribal cohesions. This is because, much as we are thinking broadly about Pan- Africanism, as a country, we are balkanised along tribal lines with different agenda. This is weakening the country as opposed to becoming stronger in terms of cohesion and development. view
  • 9 Oct 2018 in National Assembly: Therefore, while we are looking at the larger Pan-Africanism, we also need to look into our Kenyan cohesion. The Commission on National Cohesion and Integration has strengthened our Pan-Africanism within the country. Charity begins at home. We can then move further to Pan-Africanism. With that I support. Thank you. view
  • 22 Aug 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. Like all my colleagues who have spoken all morning, I support the Motion. I think everybody has supported the Motion. The mood of the House is such that everybody supports this Motion. That is because of its importance and the effect that it has within the society. Majority of the women who suffer from this condition are from poor communities. This is because, as it has been said, a lot of them do not even go to school. Therefore, they enter into early marriages and are subjected to those ... view
