4 Jun 2014 in National Assembly:
Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Let me take this opportunity to also support this amendment Bill and say that, indeed, going by the deaths that we have seen as a result of the alcohol menace in the last few weeks, as a responsible leader, even though I do not drink, this kind of amendment to this law will come in handy to give a hand to the Mututho team to create rehabilitation and treatment centres, so that we can care for the unfortunate aftermath of the kind of things that we have seen happening in the last few weeks. ...

4 Jun 2014 in National Assembly:
I do not consume miraa, per se. But in my contribution, I will use the word “ khat ”. Khat initially is a Somali word for miraa and you will see the history between the Merus and the Somalis. Historically, our bond for many years is this plant called miraa . Unfortunately, I am not seeing the consumers here. I can see three or four consumers that I can speak on their behalf because I am a proxy. I am tied between a rock and a hard place. Why do I say so? In my own constituency, the biggest support ...

4 Jun 2014 in National Assembly:
Yes, I am only speaking because miraa is so dear to hon. Kajuju and all of us. It is the same way sugar issues are very dear to hon. Ottichilo and hon. (Eng.) Gumbo. The camel is so dear to me and the community that rears it. If you see me defending the Somali community and you have issues with it, then you will have many days to have issues with me because, first and foremost, I will defend the Constitution, the Kenyan people and the community that gave me the votes. That is why you see the 11th Parliament ...

4 Jun 2014 in National Assembly:
Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I want to thank hon. Ichung’wah. I can see that he has followed the footsteps of hon. Mbadi in bringing up matters that affect the people. Hon. Mbadi brought an amendment to the Value Added Tax. Hon. Ichungwah has brought an amendment to the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act. Last night I pushed in the House Business Committee that this Bill be brought to the House today. I am sure that the Leader of Minority Party will agree with me. This is despite my coming from a constituency where the population is 80 per cent Muslims. For ...

3 Jun 2014 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, first, I want to thank my colleagues and tell them that we are back to session. As I support this petition, I want to confirm to my friend that I beat the CORD candidate squarely by more than 4,000 votes and I have the certificate. I am sure that where hon. Mbadi comes from, you win elections during party nominations. I know he was rigged in at the party nominations, so at the general election there was no election.

3 Jun 2014 in National Assembly:
Today I am a happy man because in the 2007 post-election violence, the blame game was at the late Samuel Kivuitu and the ECK bungled elections. Our country went through a serious constitutional dispensation. We formed independent commissions. Remind hon. Millie Odhiambo that the Floor is mine and we are in the august House. We have left our markets, shops and constituencies. A renowned lawyer and election expert called Kriegler was brought to Kenya. With the help of other Kenyans, they established the IEBC and many other independent offices we are proud of today. The Constitution provides for the independent ...

3 Jun 2014 in National Assembly:
individuals, regions or tribes. Today, I want to challenge the Committee led by hon. Chepkong’a that the data they are going to collect should not come from funerals. The evidence that they are going to receive must come from men and women of high integrity. The information they are going to receive must be analyzed by a Committee of Parliament that is beyond reproach. This country needs credible institutions. This country will not entertain the creation of institutions every morning and every evening, you want to disband them because your son, daughter, friend, grandfather of father did not win the ...
