  • 9 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: The other issue is about the Value Added Tax (VAT) on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) which is a very critical matter. I know that LPG was initially zero-rated to allow much and fast penetration of LPG because of global warming and to protect our forests. However, during the Budget Estimates in the last financial year, VAT was reintroduced. Nevertheless, our people still use charcoal and firewood for their day-to-day energy consumption. There is need for this matter to be reconsidered. We need to zero-rate LPG, so that we can allow its penetration to be fast, so that we can continue ... view
  • 9 Jun 2021 in National Assembly: Finally, there is the issue of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). There is need for KRA to be funded. We know that they play a critical role in the collection of revenue in this country. However, it can do much more than that. They can bail companies that are suffering because of COVID-19 Pandemic. We know that this is happening in the United States of America (USA). The revenue collector bails out companies, so that they can collect more revenue from these companies and safeguard employment of our people. If KRA is fully funded, we believe that they can play this ... view

  • 23 Mar 2021 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. First and foremost, I wish to congratulate the former Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Duale, for bringing this Petition. As you are very much aware, Mombasa is dominated by a big business community that is from the Somali community. However, majority of the youth from that community, up to today, are still suffering in acquiring ID cards that can enable them get the necessary services in this country. So, this Petition should be opened up and not be limited to only North Eastern so that whatever recommendations that may be ... view

  • 10 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to say a word about my dedication to the anti-FGM campaign, as proposed by Sessional Paper No.3 of 2019. Statistics that have been shared by the Leader of the Majority and other speakers speak for themselves. About 94 per cent of Somali women have gone through the knife. It is a serious matter. We need to ask ourselves who the victims are in this case. It is the women. Who propagates this victimization? It is the men. If the women or the mother of the family delivers, takes the ... view
  • 10 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: out of a sum of Kshs1.5 billion that has been allocated to the anti-FGM body, only a sum of Kshs100 million has been disbursed. How can we achieve this objective if funds are not flowing? We need to fight FGM the way we fought HIV/AIDS. The speakers before me made it very clear. This country was so focused when HIV/AIDS was a pandemic in this country. We spoke about it freely. Wherever we went, be it in schools, churches, mosques or in offices, we freely spoke about it candidly and we were there to support one another. Female Genital Mutilation ... view
  • 10 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: This is a serious matter. We marry them. If there is no pleasure, and you cannot satisfy her, you start thinking that you or the woman is the problem and yet, in actual sense, we are the ones propagating those horrendous acts. This practice needs to come to an end. With those remarks, I fully support the Motion. view
