  • 28 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I rise to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government the following Question: (i) Is the Cabinet Secretary aware that on 24th February 2019, a minor, one Njamerin Lenanyokie, a class five pupil aged 12 years, was brutally killed by bandits in Morijo Market in Samburu North Constituency and no suspects have been apprehended to date? (ii) If yes, what action is the Ministry taking to ensure that the culprits are arrested and prosecuted? • 19 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I want to support the Motion that was moved by one of our colleagues, the Member for Ndhiwa. Samburu County is one of the counties among the 13 that were mentioned which are affected by drought. This is not something new. Just like my colleagues have said, it is something that was eminent. We normally know that during this period in the year, there is a dry season right from December up to April. So, the Government should have been proactive rather than reactive. There is a continuous assessment ... view
  • 19 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, the Government is being reactive in this case. They are only addressing the screaming headlines on the television and in the media. We want the Government to move very fast. The assessment which is conducted by the National Drought Management Authority normally provides a target group of people who are more vulnerable than others. For example, we have more than 100,000 people who are affected by drought in Samburu County. There is shortage of food and water. The herders have moved to far-flung areas to look for pasture and water. The elderly and children are left ... view

  • 19 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: Because of drought, people can get affected by diseases due to low immunity. This is because they do not eat good food. I would like to request the Government to ensure that food is moved very fast, and it should not just be maize which they like providing. Where there is drought and there is shortage of food in the village, the Government should provide a balanced diet. Now that they are saying that Kshs2 billion has been allocated for that, the food provided must be balanced. There must be fortified food for the children, the elderly and the rest ... view

  • 14 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I just want to echo the voice of my colleagues who have already opposed the amendments. I totally oppose them because they are not in good faith, according to me, going by what we know the role of the Senate is. view
  • 14 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: Article 96 of the Constitution provides that the Senate represents counties and serves to protect the interest of the counties. There is a lot to be done in counties. After the promulgation of the Constitution and when we started implementing it right from 2013, the Government devolved most of the roads that were mentioned in the Constitution. In fact, counties went and demanded that some of the roads be devolved faster than they were supposed to be done. Actually, their hands are full. The Senate has a lot of work to do. The national Government is only in the road ... view
