accuse to have scuttled their plans to harm me, will see our grave. For the record, I want to say that I did adduce that Petition in this House as a representative of the people of Kikuyu and the people of Kiambu who had petitioned this House to look into issues to do with the militia. What worries me is that the said Mr. Karanja had actually made a report to the Kikuyu Police through the Kikuyu Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Office. It, therefore, bewilders me how the same gang was able to know that Karanja had made a report ...

trumped-up charges of being in possession of Marijuana. That young man was in exercise of his duty as an advocate. I speak in this country and this House as an elected Member of Parliament representing the people of Kikuyu. In my statement to the police, I have given leads on political issues within Kiambu County and Kikuyu Constituency. It is a matter that, as a House, we should take seriously, because in the run-up to an election, if we do not look into the growth and rise of militia gangs, they will be used by our opponents to eliminate those ...

Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I must begin by thanking you for your wisdom in not allowing us to attend that conference. It is nothing but a conference to massage the egos of the governors, who are not giving any value to the people of Kenya. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor.

During the State of the Nation Address in this House, the President posed a question of whether Kenyans can see the true value in the Kshs1 trillion that has been devolved to the counties. It is quite clear that all the money that has gone to county governments has not been put to good use. Spending Kshs280 million on payments of high flying lawyers is not good for this country. I have just seen in the audited accounts that are to be tabled here, a sum of Kshs150 million has gone into partitioning of offices at Delta Plaza in Westlands. ...

Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I also rise to support this Bill. As has been said by many contributors to this debate, there are many emerging issues besides interest rates. The very exorbitant interest rates charged by banks have stifled the growth of businesses in this country. But more worrying is the fact that the interests these banks are paying to individual depositors of banks are not just low but are ridiculously low. More worrying is the fact it is not just individual depositors’ funds. We have seen very unfortunate situations where many of these banks take deposits from the ...

The issue of corporate governance in banks has been spoken to at length. What we have seen in the unfortunate closure of Chase Bank, Dubai Bank Kenya and Imperial Bank Limited are clear cases of lack of corporate governance and very weak corporate governance structures. I hope that as we move to the Third Reading, we will move amendments that will ensure that we further strengthen the corporate governance of our banking sector. As I said when moving the Procedural Motion, our banking sector is truly the artery of our economy. If there is a small clot in this artery ...
