  • 18 Apr 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. First, I would like to welcome you back from Australia, where you had attended the Commonwealth Games. Welcome back. I know Hon. Martha Wangari because we work together. At the party level, she was our treasurer in the United Democratic Forum Party (UDF). That is how I found myself in the Jubilee Party. I take this opportunity to congratulate her for tabling this Motion. I was also preparing a Motion. She just overtook me. It is an idea that I support. It amazes me which country we live in where when leaders are hunting ... view
  • 18 Apr 2018 in National Assembly: Pregnancy is not something you can hide, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, because we can see it. Some of us who have families can see. That is not the point. The point is the duration that a woman is pregnant is long enough. The fact that she has to visit hospital several times means we have the details. We should not take children who were born through a tedious exercise to get this document. We want those documents. I request that those documents be issued at the hospitals where the children are born and even at primary schools where headteachers and ... view
  • 28 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I will start by thanking the President for nominating the two gentlemen, who are civil servants. They are long time civil servants. That will give morale to other civil servants to work hard. We have Dr. Julius, Mr. Marwa and Mr. Irungu of the Ministry Water and Irrigation proposed for appointment as PSs in this Government. That is to say those civil servants should work hard and their work will promote them to the next level. Having listened to a well-presented Motion by the Chairman of the Departmental Committee ... view
  • 22 Feb 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I thank the Whip of the Majority Party for donating this one minute to me. I waited to contribute to this very important Motion, which is touching on the livelihood of persons living on earth. Coming back to Kenya, I wish to congratulate the Government, but ask them to take a front lead. For a long time, the issue of housing has been left in the hands of middlemen who have fleeced Kenyans. The middlemen have constructed buildings which have killed Kenyans. It should be streamlined, so that we have a proper legal framework ... view
  • 14 Sep 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you Hon. Speaker for giving me this opportunity to contribute to the President’s Address which was very wonderful because it had feelers from the ground. People did not believe that the President would give such a good speech because of the events resulting from the Supreme Court decision which stunned the world. Such a thing has never happened in Africa – A sitting president to concede to go back to the ballot and ask for peace to prevail. He did not even ask for a recount of the ballot papers in order to ascertain what each candidate garnered. The ... view
  • 14 Sep 2017 in National Assembly: I also want to take this opportunity to congratulate you for having come back as the Speaker of the 12th Parliament. You really deserve it because it was out of your good work in the 11th Pfarliament that Members had confidence in you. I would not want to leave that subject before congratulating my colleague Hon. Cheboi for being elected as the Deputy Speaker. Above all, allow me to thank the good people of Ikolomani for having brought me back to this House. It is historic that the people of Ikolomani, under the circumstances I vied, that is, on a ... view
  • 29 Mar 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me the opportunity to contribute. At the outset, I congratulate Hon. Alfred Agoi, the Member for Sabatia, who is my neighbour, for coming up with this good Bill. Ikolomani is the immediate neighbour of Sabatia Constituency. Some students from Ikolomani go to learn in some schools in Sabatia. We have experienced problems of examinations being cancelled in both Ikolomani and Sabatia. At first hand, we experienced the acrimony that parents, students and teachers go through when an examination is cancelled. Sometimes an examination is not cancelled because there was a malpractice, but ... view
  • 29 Mar 2017 in National Assembly: I also want to congratulate the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for the tight rules they have come up with. However, we want our students to sit for their examinations in a humane manner. We do not want it to look like a cell where we have police officers with guns in classes. This is not a situation they are used to while they are learning. We want integrity, but we should devise better ways of handling examinations. So far, it is good but we want it to be humane. There is a lot of panic when everyone is ... view
  • 29 Mar 2017 in National Assembly: Thirdly, as I echo what my friend and big brother, Hon. Namwamba, has said, it is not easy when you leave Kenya and take your certificates to the neighbouring countries, because the media has publicised Kenya badly. It is time we restored our sanity because in recent years, we have had a lot of influx of students from Tanzania and the neighbouring East African countries coming to learn in Kenya. If there is a mistake, we can correct it so that we restore our dignity in education. Otherwise, I close once more by congratulating Hon. Agoi for bringing this very ... view
