In the statement, the Chairperson should:- (i) state how much money is held in fixed deposit accounts in Chase Bank limited and Imperial Bank limited and on what terms; (ii) explain whether KTDA has taken any steps to prevent possible loss of tea farmers’ money held ... view
  • 4 May 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, in fact, you have clarified the statement I am seeking. It relates to commercial banks although I have specifically mentioned those two. This is a totally new question and I do not agree with the Vice Chair that they have responded to this. They have not responded because it has just been raised in this House. view
  • 4 May 2016 in Senate: Yes, that is correct Mr. Speaker, Sir. We did raise the question with respect to Imperial Bank, but this is now a general one referring to the experience of Imperial Bank and relating it to the rest of the commercial banks where KTDA has fixed deposits. • 3 May 2016 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Is the Chairman in order to suggest that his mandate is to read anything that is given to him? view
  • 3 May 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, all these responses are provided by the Jubilee Government regardless of where there chairperson is affiliated to. In this particular case today, it seems that chairpersons belonging to the Jubilee side have been unable to give responses. Could an inquiry be established to find out whether there is sabotage going on somewhere? view
  • 28 Apr 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, yes and by way of an observation. The answer to this question has suggested that this particular plant was launched way back in June, 2010. The delay has been occasioned by the fact that the prospective investor had to seek licences and various approvals from various authorities. Eighteen such licences and approvals have taken a span of four years and that is largely the reason why this particular project was delayed. My concern is that this has been cited as a major cause of frustration for prospective investors in this country. Is there any way the national ... view
  • 28 Apr 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, in any case, this is the kind of information that is readily available at the National Treasury or at the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics. I do not know why we should be asked to wait for one week. view
  • 27 Apr 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, my point of order is that the Senator for Busia County, Senior Counsel and former Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya has started debating this Motion without, first, moving it. I rise pursuant to the Standing Order 45 (2) (b) to seek a Statement from the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Energy regarding the provision of affordable and reliable power supply. In the Statement, the Chairperson should:- (a) Explain why despite promises made by the national Government to introduce various interventions to deal with frequent power blackouts in Kisii and its environs, the situation continues to worsen day by day. (b) Explain the cause of the increase in billings in both domestic and commercial entities in the last three months. (c) Explain the ... view
