  • 8 Oct 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am not the Chairperson, but I will raise this matter with the Chairperson of the Committee and report back in two weeks because the issues at hand are weighty. view
  • 30 Sep 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I know that Sen. (Dr.) Khalwale has raised a matter which is close to the hearts of many people in that region. We will try as much as possible as a Committee to ensure that we get a response for him in two weeks’ time. The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor, Senate. view
  • 30 Sep 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you for the opportunity. May I say the handling of the predicament of the IDPs has been very unsatisfactory and very discriminatory? All IDPs suffered a similar fate. They were displaced and some of them lost property and others were very unfortunate to lose their loved ones. All of them suffered humiliation but most importantly, they were displaced. Today, we have been told that some of them were paid Kshs400, 000, others were resettled in land allocated by Government and others had houses built for them. In Kisii and Nyamira, some of them were paid ... view
  • 29 Sep 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker Sir, I want to support the sentiments expressed by that petitioner, Mr. Gesicho. You will recall that as far back as May 2014, I sought a statement from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in respect to this particular matter, asking for some specific information regarding voter registration alongside information relating to the challenges that IEBC may be having. This is an important matter. I visited one of the constituencies in Kisii County to see what progress has been made from the time the voter registration exercise started. Out of the eight wards in that particular ... view
  • 29 Sep 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am a Member of the Committee and I want to provide the response on behalf of the Committee in two weeks’ time. view
  • 29 Sep 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the issue of taxes and levies has been raised before in respect to profits going to farmers. Could a response also be given when responding to Sen. Sang’s request so that we know the impact of the taxes in reducing the profitability of the crop to farmers? view
  • 29 Sep 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to take this opportunity to thank Sen. Wako for a very elaborate answer. I am particularly excited to see that the IEBC is planning to carry out a massive registration of voters in November and December this year. I am therefore quite satisfied about what IEBC has put in place in preparation for the next General Election. However, the Statement was only part of what I requested. I also requested IEBC to provide statistics relating to the number of persons registered as voters so far in each of the 47 counties and how these ... view
  • 24 Sep 2015 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. It is a follow up on what my colleague, Sen. Musila has said. Five Statements were scheduled to be issued today. Not a single one has been issued. You can also see that the mood in this House is somewhat dull. I do not think that this is the way we will go on transacting our business. Perhaps time has come when, as the leader of this House, you should categorically direct, particularly the committees to do their work. If there are Cabinet Secretaries or Ministries which are not up to ... view
  • 24 Sep 2015 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. A Member of this House, in this case, Sen. Sang, has risen to raise very specific concerns about insecurity in his county. He has requested that special attention be given because from what he said, this is apparently a regular menace. He asked that in the intervening period between now and the time that this question will answered, the Inspector-General (IG) gives special attention to the security challenges in that area. The Deputy Senate Majority Leader is being very casual about it. He has said that it is the work of ... view
  • 23 Sep 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am glad to hear that the answer is available. For that matter, why would the Vice Chairperson not give out the answer tomorrow? view
