  • 2 Apr 2015 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. The Chairperson of the Committee on Devolved Governments announced a recess. Is he in order to talk about a recess when we are not aware of it? Is he anticipating debate? view
  • 2 Apr 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I stand to seek a clarification. Sen. Wamatangi has talked about demonstrations in his county. For the record, Sen. Wamatangi has been saying: “I have a demonstration; I have a demonstration in this place”. Does that give the impression that he has been organizing these demonstrations? view
  • 1 Apr 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I will be very brief. First, I want to thank Sen. Mbura for executing this Petition very effectively and her concern on the plight of the suffering Kenyans. There are so many Kenyans in Saudi Arabia and other countries in the Middle East who are crying for help. They have been made to suffer inhuman treatment. I believe that this Senate has a responsibly to safeguard the welfare of Kenyans and guarantee their safety wherever they are in the world. view
  • 1 Apr 2015 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to make one or two comments on the President’s Speech. First, on the economy, it is gratifying to note the per capita income of US$1,250 meaning that Kenya has attained a middle income status. This is one of the countries in Africa with a diversified and balanced economy. It is one of the fastest growing economies and it is the 9th largest economy in Africa. These are very encouraging developments. However, we have greater potential to perform even better and achieve even higher targets. If we handle ... view
  • 24 Mar 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, there is no doubt that the media in this country has played its part in matters relating to the social and economic development of this country. The media has continually given information ensuring that the nation is properly enlightened and educated. There is also no doubt that the media, generally, has also been associated with efforts being made by the Kenyan people to enhance economic space and improve governance through the various institutions. However, there is need for this Senate to go deep into the various issues raised by media houses in order to understand the challenges ... view

  • 19 Mar 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, you were not present. However, if you could allow me to express some dissatisfaction with some of the statements and responses given by the CS in respect to the specific issues raised on this matter. You will recall that I had specifically wanted to know if the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology was aware that a number of facilities in public schools, including classrooms had been destroyed. The CS, of course, acknowledges that was the case and they were aware of it. I also wanted to know if he was aware that this would impact negatively ... view
  • 19 Mar 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, this raises very fundamental questions. We are in a system where the national Government provides free education to all public primary schools. If classrooms have been destroyed, then how do you provide that free primary education? Where will the students undertake their learning? Furthermore, you will see that the Ministry has been allocated funds for infrastructure development and maintenance. They were saying that despite the fact that they knew that was the case in county, nothing had been done. However, there is need for speedy response when destructions occur. Could the Chairperson then agree that there is ... view
