  • 10 Jul 2014 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. First of all, I want to thank the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Members of the Committee of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries for the effort made to provide the answer within the time promised. However, a number of measures have been enumerated on what steps have been taken and all that. I have read all that and I have listened to the answer, but it does not appear that any specific method or steps have been taken to deal with the situation in my own county, Kisii, although I appreciate that steps have been taken to ... view
  • 10 Jul 2014 in Senate: Thank you very much, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. By way of concluding my remarks on this, I want to take this opportunity to make an appeal to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries through the Senate Committee. I want to emphasise to the Ministry that this outbreak has caused immense suffering to residents in The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. • 8 Jul 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I forgot my card at home, but I will make sure that I come with it next time. I have been listening to this debate. I think we are treading on rather dangerous ground because what direction are we giving with regard to the TSC Act, the Code of Ethics and their regulations. Are they above a due court process? I think this is what worries me a little bit. Once the matter has gone through a court process and somebody has been pronounced not guilty, that should be the ultimate position. I think we are getting ... view
  • 17 Jun 2014 in Senate: I stand to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries on the following specific concerns: (a) Is the Cabinet Secretary responsible for crop production and husbandry aware of an outbreak of a disease which has severely affected maize production in the counties of Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Nyamira, Kisii and Migori in the last three or so planting seasons? • 17 Jun 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, on 17th April, 2014, the Deputy Speaker who is also the Senator for Murang’a County, Sen. Kembi-Getura, requested for a statement from the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Roads and Transportation regarding safety along the Nairobi-Thika Super highway. I wish to issue a response on behalf of the Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Abu Chiaba. Sen. Kembi-Getura specifically wanted to know how many designated crossing areas are there on the Nairobi-Thika Super highway and how convenient they are to pedestrians. Secondly, he wanted to know how many pedestrians crossing at areas other than designated areas have ... view
  • 17 Jun 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I fully share the sentiments expressed by Sen. Kembi-Gitura. Indeed, they are very valid observations. It is regrettable that in a span of a mere two years, we have lost so many people. However, this is really a question of public discipline. We, as Kenyans, need to understand and appreciate the need to observe the law. By crossing the Super highway at points which are not designated, pedestrians get involved in accidents and lose lives. This is regrettable. So, there is need to sensitise and educate our people at all levels; in schools, churches and in other ... view
  • 17 Jun 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, we appreciate that this super highway is a new phenomenon in our country; a new project, perhaps the first of its kind in the entire region. Therefore, all of us are new to this; we want to learn how to use it, including the police officers. They should not be setting up road blocks on a super highway. • 10 Jun 2014 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I have a Statement in response to a request raised by Sen. Kembi-Gitura of Murang’a in respect to safety along the Nairobi-Thika Superhiway. I notice that Sen. Kembi-Gitura is not around and I wanted your guidance on what I should do. view
  • 10 Jun 2014 in Senate: Thank you for that guidance, Mr. Speaker, Sir. view
  • 9 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I want to thank Sen. Sang for his generosity. I want to thank him also for the initiative, first of all, to bring this very important Bill and for participating in this mediation effort. Secondly, Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to try and allay the fears of Sen. Wangari, first, by informing her that the elected Women Representatives are actually Members of this Board. In addition, Senators who will be chairing these meetings will ensure that your interests are taken on board. The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information ... view
