  • 7 May 2013 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am trying to impress on the hon. Senators not to be so ambitious. It is important to know that some of us are products of the same universities or the famous Tom Mboya Airlift in 1950s and we are still professionals. So, you can be a professional not because you have studied in your area but you can even go to those universities which are already established and which have well-done opportunity cost. Therefore, I would expect the Mover of the Motion, much as I would support it, to introduce those amendments so that we ... view
  • 30 Apr 2013 in Senate: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this chance to condole our friend, the late Sen. Mutula Kilonzo. He was a person who would crack jokes to every other person. I did not know him for creating enemies. I only knew him as a person who created friends. So on my on my own behalf and that of my family and also the people of Kirinyaga, I take this opportunity to condole the family of the late Mutula Kilonzo. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I was with this gentleman on Thursday and we were talking about the Committee on ... view

  • 25 Apr 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, if we have all been invited to attend this meeting and we have indicated that we will travel to Mombasa County, I note that the business for that day will end at 6.30 p.m. Going by issues of insecurity that have been cited in Mombasa County because of the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC), I think we will be safe if we depart at 7.00 p.m. We will use the ferry because Leisure Village is at the South Coast and that is where the MRC base is. Could we be exempted from travelling The electronic version of the ... view
  • 25 Apr 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me the chance to continue with the debate on the Presidential Address which was delivered on Tuesday, 16th April, 2013. Before the time business ended yesterday, I was discussing the Address vis-à-vis the kind of development that we continue to enjoy in this country, except in Kirinyaga County. In Kirinyaga County, we grow three major cash crops, namely tea, coffee and rice. In Mwea Constituency, for example, we have the largest settlement scheme in Africa growing the largest amount of rice. We have problems facing the inhabitants. This country continues receiving second class ... view
  • 24 Apr 2013 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, thank you very much for sparing the eye to see me this evening. I started standing from yesterday and I was almost giving up, but all is not lost. I start by congratulating you for being elected as the Deputy Speaker and I also congratulate everybody here for having got the slot to come to the Senate and be a Member of the Upper House. I salute the President for being what he has been and for winning the presidency. I also want to thank the residents of Kirinyaga for electing me to the Eleventh Parliament. ... view
  • 24 Apr 2013 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is true. If tomorrow we are treated to another lecture by the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA), you will note that Mpeketoni itself as a region has a higher GDP than the whole of Lamu District. That is true and there is nothing to hide. So, we should specialize in maximizing production of the natural resources that we have in our areas. I would expect those people who are good in fishing to continue fishing, so that we get more fish. That is all I am trying to say. Those people who are good in ... view
  • 23 Apr 2013 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. The Member is telling untruths in this House. I have just driven from Masinga this afternoon. I passed through the road he is talking about and it is tarmacked. Could he tell us whether he is telling the truth? view
