  • 17 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker there must also be high penalties for people who dump, where and how they do it. Some of these trucks which collect garbage just deposit it anywhere without care of where they are depositing it. Among the hazards that are occurring are high rates of respiratory problems for the elderly and the young; alongside the dumpsites most of the occupants of these house actually have a major respiratory problem. We need to look at this and to know whether there is a funding that can actually deal with this. There is also the issue of the ... view

Speaker, Sir, in pursuant to Standing Order No.44(2)(c) I wish to request a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Environment and Natural Resources regarding the development of the integrated solid waste management plan for the country. • 8 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. (a) Kenya Red Cross Society is one of 186 national red cross societies all over the world. However, that strategy is not sufficient for Kenya Red Cross Society sustainability given the trend ... view
  • 8 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, as I said, Kenya Red Cross is an NGO as per Cap.256 Laws of Kenya. As such, the Government has no way of insisting or knowing where they get their funding or what they do with their funding. We normally call upon them almost on a daily basis whenever we have a crisis in Kenya. I do not think it is a cash cow as the hon. Member wishes to intimate. If there is anybody who really comes to the aid of Kenyans when they are in need, then it is truly the Kenya Red Cross. view
  • 8 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, as I said, in the last ten years, we have not given Kenya Red Cross any funding. view
  • 8 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is simply because we have not funded them for ten years. So, we cannot ask them to account for money that we have not given them for ten years. view
  • 8 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, there will not be a fallacy because we have not given them. view
  • 8 Jan 2013 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, that means that we have to change the Act that created the Kenya Red Cross to make it more effective if it is not effective in the areas that the hon. Member think it should be. view
