Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to add my voice to Sen. (Prof.) Kamar’s statement. I commend her because her Statement comes at a time when our farmers are frustrated. The other day I visited my home in the village and I was able to feel the helplessness of farmers who planted maize. They had nowhere to sell it and the prices are very low. Imagine a two kilogrammes of maize being sold for between Kshs40 and Kshs50.

Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am talking about Kakamega County, Lugari Constituency, Lumakanda Ward where I come from and I saw farmers were helpless. They planted maize, but have nowhere to take it because the price is so low. A two kilogramme of maize is being sold between Kshs40 and kshs50. They are desperate and they do not know what to do. I feel that we need to protect them because they play a big role in the economy of this country. Some sugarcane farmers in Mumias shifted to maize farming. They thought this was a better option because it ...

Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, in all public schools, there are always arrangements for our children to learn Kiswahili. Some schools reserve one day for speaking Kiswahili the whole day, and maybe English will be spoken for four days, and so on. Those are mechanism put in place to ensure that children learn Kiswahili. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, this Motion should go a notch higher; become a bill and eventually a law so that we can have positive impact on the education of hearing impaired children. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, with those remarks, I beg to move and request Sen. Faki ...

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to support you in welcoming the Members of County Assembly (MCAs) who have joined us from Bungoma County. They have done a commendable job. We have interacted with them in the Committee on Labour and Social Welfare and we know that this is a vibrant team that will help us as we work towards devolution. We did mention to them that we want devolution to work for us because it is a tool that is going to help us deliver to the people. I am commending them for coming to ...

Thank you very much, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me an opportunity to support the Motion to adjourn the House for the purposes of going to Mombasa for the Legislative Summit. This Summit is very important for it is a follow-up on the Devolution Conference that we had in Kakamega. During this Summit, Members of the County Assemblies (MCAs) and Senators are going to interact. I believe so much is going to be brought on board by Senators and MCAs. I know that MCAs already have issues to raise with us and we also have issues to raise with them. ...
