  • 27 Mar 2018 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, in part two, the Chairperson needed to come out clearly and say the measures that the Government is putting in place to deal with GBV. The measures have not come out clearly. In the third part, it has not come out clearly on what measures the Government has put in place to ensure that children who are faced with GBV are counseled or what interventions are being made. I do not know how to put it clearly, but I am not satisfied with the response. view
  • 8 Mar 2018 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, thank you for giving me this opportunity to also support you and fellow Senators in welcoming the PTA members and teachers of Alliance Girls High School. They have come at an opportune time. This is a day when the whole world is celebrating the International Women’s’ Day. Women have gone through an evolution over time. There was a time when a woman was just confined to the kitchen and was not helping in economic development. However, we have seen the woman and the girl-child evolving in terms of education. Long time ago our girls were not being ... view
  • 7 Mar 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me an opportunity to add my voice to this Bill. I commend Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. for this Bill, which I support strongly. Article 6 of the Constitution provides that Kenya is divided into counties, but it does not define how the counties will be divided. The fact that it does not define the counties is already a problem in this country. Why is it so? It is because of the disputes that are likely to arise as a result of land issues. Just to cite a few examples, we have had ... view
  • 6 Mar 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I will be very brief. I just want to comment that when it comes to issues of disability, they should be taken with a lot of seriousness because the voice they have here is very minimal compared to the rest. Allow me to say that I sought this Statement in the last Session. In fact, I sought about five statements on issues of disability. There was only one that was comprehensively issued by the Senate Majority Leader. However, the rest were not responded to. This Statement was for last session and there are also ... view
  • 1 Mar 2018 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank you for the opportunity to welcome the delegation from Mandera CASB. It is a good gesture from that county for them to come and benchmark with the Senate. They are well represented in this House. Their issues have come out strongly and the fact that they have presented themselves shows that they are concerned about their county. We will also look into how we can address their issues. Some of the issues that have been addressed concerning Mandera County in the recent past, include the issues of cancer and insecurity. I am sure those issues ... view
  • 28 Feb 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me an opportunity to add my voice to this debate on adoption of Sessional Paper No.2 of 2016 on the National Slum Upgrading and Prevention Policy. • 27 Feb 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity. Pursuant to Standing Order No.46(2)(b), I rise to seek a statement from the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations on the murder of Ms. Mary Natembea, allegedly by her husband, on 14th February, 2018. In the statement, the Chairperson should:- (1) Explain the circumstances surrounding the murder of Ms. Mary Natembea who was expectant and allegedly killed by her husband on 14th February, 2018 at their home in Lumakanda Ward, Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, in violation of Article 26 (1) and (3) of the ... view
  • 27 Feb 2018 in Senate: That is okay, Mr. Speaker, Sir, if a thorough investigation will be done concerning Ms. Mary Natembea for justice to prevail. • 22 Feb 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for the opportunity you have accorded me to add my voice on this Statement and would like to ride on it. The issue of cancer needs to be addressed because it has become a national issue. As I stand to speak as a cancer survivor, I was diagnosed with cancer in 2013. I am still alive now and believe that I will live for many more years. view
  • 22 Feb 2018 in Senate: I want to ride on her Statement that it is important for intervention to be done to ensure that cancer survivors live productively. So, I plead that an investigation be done not only in the said area but countrywide. What is the Government doing to ensure that cancer survivors live a productive life like I am living now? When I was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, were it not for Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), where I was working, my friends and relatives, I would certainly be dead by now because it was very expensive. It made ... view
