When we go down there to chair whatever they are doing, we are not belittling them, but trying to help them deliver what the electorate elected us for. It is, therefore, important that any suspicion that exists concerning this very important Bill be completely forgotten. Mr. Speaker, Sir, the governors or any other party that could be having fears that the Senators are going to interfere with what is happening in the counties should realize that we hear the cries of the people. • 19 Nov 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity. Issues to do with agriculture are very sensitive in this country. I am happy that a Member of my delegation brought up this Motion. From our counties, these are matters that are close to the farmers who are there. I wish to state that I fully support the Motion due to the fact that it is talking about the reduction of interest rates from 10 per cent to 3 per cent. Like Sen. Kittony has said, I am a farmer and when I contribute to this Motion, I will ... view
  • 22 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you very much, Madam Temporary Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this Committee’s findings. Madam Temporary Speaker, it is very challenging that as we discuss this report, there are counties that still lack Level 4 and Level 5 hospitals. To be able to limit the number of deaths that occur in areas where these hospitals are lacking, we need to prioritize the construction of hospitals in the said counties. Madam Temporary Speaker, there is also the issue of the rising cases of cancer in our country. This is a very big challenge that is affecting our ... view
  • 22 Oct 2013 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I would like to contribute to this very important Motion that has been moved by our Chief Whip. It has been very challenging to the employees that were inherited by the various county governments. This is basically because there is a feeling in our country that the moment there is change of guard anywhere, staff has to be moved whether they are working well or qualified to other places. In most cases, they are replaced by people who are not able to perform properly. So, it is very disheartening to see that most counties now, like the ... view

  • 15 Oct 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is true that our country is almost at standstill because most of the county assemblies are apparently on the so-called illegal recess. I stand here to narrate what is happening in my County of Nakuru. It is very unfortunate because Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Nakuru are suffering a lot. I will try to explain a bit why this is the case. There was a feeling that the issue of the salaries for the MCAs was going to be looked into at an earlier date. Because of that feeling, the County of Nakuru went ... view

  • 15 Oct 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, since Nakuru has 11 constituencies, it means that there are MCAs who come from as far as Kuresoi, Subukia, Mai Mahiu and Maela. Those are very distant areas and if the MCAs have to commute to Nakuru during the time that they are supposed to be running business in the county, it is a big challenge. I have been supporting them and it is very difficult for me to continue doing so. So, it is important that the relevant bodies that are mandated to look into the remuneration of the MCAs in our country and within the ... view
  • 3 Oct 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to contribute to this wonderful Motion that seeks to eradicate Mathenge in the areas that it is growing. Every time that I have visited Lake Bogoria and the outlying areas, I always wonder where this green shrub that is growing alongside the road came from. I assume that it was brought in to apparently serve as fodder for livestock. But, unfortunately, by the fact that it covers even the surface of tarmac roads means that animals have never benefited from its introduction. I feel that if the introduction of view
