  • 18 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. From the outset, I rise to support this Motion. When I look at the resume of Major General (Rtd) Tumbo, it speaks for itself. He has a lot of experience in the military and diplomatic fields. As he comes to this position, because I believe we are going to approve his name, he has a full in-tray. Somalia has been our neighbour and will still remain our neighbour. The sooner they realise Kenya and Somalia will remain neighbours, the better. In future, when we engage constructively with them, this will form a very serious ... view
  • 10 Feb 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. On my behalf and on behalf of the people of Kieni, I take this opportunity to condole the families of the late hon. Muchai, his two bodyguards and his driver. The way he died is shocking. The assassins knew very well that hon. Muchai and his team were armed, but they went ahead and shot them dead. The Government, more so the police, should be worried because apart from the weapon that was used to kill the four Kenyans, two more guns were taken from the officers and are now in the wrong hands. Let hon. ... view
  • 25 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you. I want to start by sending my very sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and relatives of the 28 Kenyans who were killed in that heinous act that happened in Mandera. In fact, among the 28 are two from my constituency. These are Wilfred Karimi who was 28 years old and Fridah Kathambi who was 30 years old and is a sister to Wilfred. These are not just statistics. Unfortunately, every other day we are losing Kenyans. Every other day we are waking up to statistics and I think I want to disagree with some of ... view
  • 4 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, thank you for giving me this chance to condole and also mourn my good friend, my departed hero, hon. Jose, the MP for Gatundu South. I think I am one of the last Members of Parliament to see the late hon. Jose alive because I am the one who walked him to his vehicle on Tuesday before he passed on. In fact, there is a document I wanted him to sign and he told me that he wanted to sleep over it and we meet the following day so that he could sign it. It is a great ... view
  • 4 Jun 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity. I rise to second this very important Bill by the Member for Kikuyu, hon. Ichung’wah. First of all I want to recognize and honor posthumously my good friend, our departed hero, the MP for Gatundu South who after acknowledging that there is a huge problem of alcoholism gave out one of his houses in Runda to be used as rehabilitation centre. We should now go beyond looking at this issue from a philanthropic point of view to entrenching it in law. It was painful to see over 100 young ... view
  • 13 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, in view of your earlier communication to the House regarding the composition of the mediation team, I rise on Standing Order No.1 seeking your further guidance on the actual composition of the six member team in view of the one third gender rule. From the list, I did not hear a name from the lady gender and I believe by your guidance we have able hon. Members from the other gender who are very good in negotiating. I was seeking your further guidance on the same. view
  • 5 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for this opportunity. I would like to thank my very good friend the MP for Kikuyu, hon. Ichung’wah for this Motion. Today in the morning I had that experience that many Members of Parliament experienced. It was a little bit unfortunate because it was around 6.00 a.m. When I was coming to town all the roads were blocked. This is something that we need to avoid and especially in our major towns. The reason for what happened today, I heard is that there was an increase in taxes for the matatus and taxis that ... view
  • 5 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: The Constitution is very clear that there has to be consultations. We also need to add another clause to say that there has to be consultations and consensus because in some cases, the county governments just hold meetings and assume that the general population has agreed with them. This has to be replicated in other towns. Let the county governments and the governors consult widely and have consensus so that we do not have this kind of situation. view
