Unfortunately, a lot of railway land in that part of Kisumu Town was given away to private developers. • 2 Dec 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, Kenya is a signatory to the SAO code of conduct for responsible fishing and has domesticated that into a fishing law. From the Minister's answer, BMU members play a very vital role in the sustainable utilisation of the Lake Victoria fishing. They provide intelligence and a lot of other work that the Government should be doing. In those circumstances, what is the Minister doing to ensure that BMU members, who are performing such serious roles, are adequately compensated so that they are motivated to work even better? view

That is totally insufficient for the catch from this area. What is the Minister doing to ensure that the other beaches are also adequately supplied with deep freezers? view

However, the Assistant Minister should appreciate that the correct name of this water project is not Maseno Water Project. It is Maseno-Kombewa Water Project. Both Maseno and Kombewa are in Kisumu Rural Constituency but because Kisumu Rural and parts of Kisumu Town West lie downstream from Maseno, the water comes to us by gravity. On 12th November, 2008, when Mr. Deputy Speaker was presiding over the proceedings of the House, I raised an issue asking for direction and ruling in respect of a matter that High Court ruled on and which touches on the supremacy of Parliament. The Deputy Speaker promised to make a ruling on 18th November. However, on that day, Parliament was not sitting because of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Conference. In the circumstances, when will the ruling be delivered? There is some urgency because yesterday, the High Court extended those same orders. view
