12 Oct 2017 in National Assembly:
Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I listened to your ruling very keenly and I have no problem with it at all. I have heard Hon. Ichung’wah and the Leader of the Majority Speaker speak. Whatever we feel about each other, let us treat one another with respect. The country outside this House is about to burn. Let us try to heal. The healing process starts here. However, if we are going to start insulting each other and using words which are bordering on un- parliamentary language like radar-less and clueless in referring to colleagues, then I think we are on the ...

12 Oct 2017 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, you heard me talk against the Leader of the Minority Party and my friend, Hon. Ichung’wah, but listening to Hon. Junet speaking about a principal in the NASA this way in this House, I am wondering whether we really have leadership. If this is the leadership we have in the coalition on our side talking like this in this House, then we have no leadership.

28 Sep 2017 in National Assembly:
Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. Before this Motion is moved, I wish to raise a matter which seeks your interpretation, intervention and confirmation that this House is moving in the right direction. Order No.8 contains a raft of four Bills. I am particularly interested in number (iii) and (iv), that is, the Election Offences (Amendment) Bill and the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, respectively.

28 Sep 2017 in National Assembly:
This Motion, raised under Standing Order No.120, seeks the approval of the House to reduce the publication period of the Bills. This is not mandatory, but for the House to exercise its jurisdiction properly, it is important to know why it is being asked to reduce the publication period. Most importantly, under our Standing Orders, and you know this is a House of records and customs, these matters ordinarily ought to go before the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, if it is in existence. As we stand now, we do not have such a committee to deal with ...

28 Sep 2017 in National Assembly:
As I speak, now, I know that tension in the country is getting a little higher. As Members of the House, we owe ourselves and the country a duty to ensure this tension goes down and, as much as possible, encourage inclusivity. If we are going to move in the direction the Leader of the Majority Party is leading this House, there is a possibility that we are going to widen the rift. I beseech Members of the National Assembly not to rush because of exigencies of today. If we rush these Bills because of today’s exigencies, or to correct ...

27 Sep 2017 in National Assembly:
In you, I see a blend between the wit of the Deputy Speaker and the seriousness of Hon. Speaker who has been with us since the last Parliament. I am sure you will proceed on the same lines. In supporting this Motion, I want the Members to know that it is well thought out. In fact, it gives Members the time to go and campaign for the repeat election on 26th October 2017. I want to remind this House about our responsibilities as Members of the National Assembly. What are we going to do during the recess? I am sure ...

27 Sep 2017 in National Assembly:
I am serious about this and I have been thinking to myself that probably we need to look at the qualifications for being a Member of this House. One of them ought to be skills in conflict resolution, because then, the debate that we have been having in the last two weeks arising from the judgement of the Supreme Court, should not take the line it is taking. Why is it that we must always thump-chest? Why is it that we must always have brinkmanship? Can we not, for a moment, consider that the period we are going to have, ...

27 Sep 2017 in National Assembly:
when they speak. I have heard men and women in this House speak as if all they are concerned about is chest-thumping and showing who they are loyal to. I think our loyalty should be to our mother country, our Kenya. So, let us forget about party and loyalties for a while and take up our leadership responsibilities. I want to urge my honourable colleagues in this House to take this debate on the approval of the timelines seriously. At the end of it, let us find a way of talking with each other so that we can take back ...
