  • 10 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I rise to support this Motion. I have sentiments which are very similar to those of the hon. Member who has just spoken; this is a well intended Motion. It is targeting things in the right areas of concern. Energy production is crucial to overall development and achievement of our Vision 2030 goals. However, the way it is crafted it will leave out a lot else that can contribute to the lowering of costs finally. However, I would like to say that, indeed, if we take it bit by bit, anything that will ... view

  • 9 Jul 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. I rise to contribute and support this Motion. Issues of corruption have cost the economy substantially. The amount of money that has been lost could have been made available to the poor households. The amount of money involved with Goldenberg, as recorded, would have more than tripled the per capita income of Nambale, which is my constituency. Just that particular single scam! But that kind of scam and similar corruption have other consequences. They distort the allocation of resources. They do not go where they are expected. That is why development is undermined. Hon. Deputy ... view

I would like to start from home by stating the challenges that we are facing in the health sector. That provides me with energy to be able to contribute to this kind of Motion in a way that comes right from my heart. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I live next to a dispensary, at about 200 meters away and I have witnessed needless deaths because of lack of attention from the nurses. • 12 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: that we are saving lives; we are becoming a nation that cares and is strong. You cannot emphasize this anymore as has been said by the various speakers. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, in Nambale, we have strived to provide infrastructural support aiming to have a ratio of one health care facility for about 10,000 people. At the moment, we have only two major functioning health care facilities, but under-manned; Nambale Health Centre, which I hope will become a sub-district hospital, Marende Health Centre and one or two others that do not function every day. The effective ratio is about one ... view

  • 6 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I rise to support this Motion. It is, indeed, a very timely Motion. I want to thank hon. Steven Kinyanjui for bringing it to the House. One cannot overemphasise the role of infrastructure in activating economic activities in the areas they serve. Obviously, there will be a big benefit. Also, the fact that you can spend some of the money locally means that rural economies will be energised quite apart from the trading effects that might be there. People living near urban centres, where roads are tarmacked, will probably not appreciate the significance ... view
