  • 9 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I was asking about the review. How often does the Government review those treaties? That is my question! view
  • 5 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, why are designs taking so long? He has said that the designs were started last year, but does not say in which month and that they will be ready by June. I think there is a problem here, because the Assistant Minister keeps telling us stories. I have a similar story in Kandara where a road was supposed to be done last year in September, but to date there is not a single contractor on the road. So, could he be serious on this matter? view
  • 3 Feb 2009 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. The Assistant Minister has told us that some assets of Triton had been seized. Could he tell us the value of the assets that have been seized so far? view
  • 11 Dec 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, could the Minister tell this House what she is doing in her Ministry to ensure that people do not dam rivers haphazardly without getting proper orders from her Ministry? In the countryside, people are putting up dams without consulting the Ministry. view
  • 3 Dec 2008 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, before I ask the Question, I wanted to contribute briefly to the issue of pineapples. I would like to ask the Assistant Minister what they are doing to--- view
  • 3 Dec 2008 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Forestry and Wildlife:- (a) whether he is aware that a herd of hippos in Shiranga Dam has been terrorizing residents of Mathuri Village in Kandara, resulting in the destruction of crops, and the death of a man on 15th July, 2008; and, (b) what steps he will take to stem the menace and to compensate the farmers for loss of crops as well as the family of the deceased. view
  • 3 Dec 2008 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I would like the Assistant Minister to tell this House what the Ministry is doing about this issue because these beasts are terrorising people in that area. That area is not a gazetted wild animal farm. What are they doing to ensure that these beasts are relocated from that area? You will notice that this gentleman was killed by hippos on 15th July. That is about four months ago. He happened to be the sole breadwinner of the family. Why has the Ministry taken so long to get in touch with that family regarding compensation? Could ... view
  • 3 Dec 2008 in National Assembly: I agree, Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker. Hon. Members are consulting loudly. I do not know whether--- view
  • 3 Dec 2008 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I am telling the Assistant Minister that this area is not a gazetted wildlife park. What is he doing to make sure that these animals are relocated because they are reproducing in a very big way? At the same time, I was saying that this gentleman who was killed on 5th July happened to be the sole breadwinner of his family. Why has the Ministry taken four months to contact the family? Could he give us a timeline as to when they will pay compensation to the family of this gentleman? view
  • 3 Dec 2008 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I would like to thank the Assistant Minister for attempting to answer that Question. But then, it is shocking to hear him say that human beings have encroached on animal routes. Regarding the case that I am talking about here, we do not have a game park anywhere near there. So, why should he say that human beings are encroaching on the game parks? At the same time--- view
