  • 26 Sep 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: On a point of order, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I think the hon. Member who wants to introduce some changes to the Motion does not care. This Motion is specifically for a particular area, where pupils are mostly affected. view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I was just putting across that information. view
  • 5 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: On a point of order, hon. Speaker, Sir. Pursuant to the Standing Order 44 (2)(c) I wish to request a statement from the Chairman of the Committee on Lands regarding the Lekiji community in Laikipia North comprising of 400 families that are currently facing an eviction. The said community has lived for over 55years on the said land. The community has even established a primary school with over 300 pupils who have participated in national examinations for the last ten years. However, a white family is now set to evict this community and take over the said land, citing ownership. ... view
  • 5 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, Sir, as the Chairman of the Committee has said, the matter is a bit urgent because the school children, the teachers and other members of the community are living in fear. So, I suggest that we get a response in a week’s time, because the situation is a bit complex. Thank you. view
  • 24 Apr 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. Yesterday, while speaking on the Presidential Address, I talked about the issue of agriculture which needs to be given a lot of emphasis. However, I had some issues concerning my constituency. I am talking about livestock. view
  • 24 Apr 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, about livestock, I said that about ten million Kenyans depend on this industry. In the President’s Address, he did not speak more about livestock. When we talk of the nyama choma industry especially in Nairobi and other big towns, it employs about one million Kenyans. We need to put a lot of emphasis on this industry in the pastoralist areas, say Laikipia, Samburu, Isiolo and Marsabit. The President talked about payment for maternity services. I am really worried that in my constituency women walk for kilometers just to get to a dispensary. What measures is the Jubilee ... view
  • 23 Apr 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, Sir, I want to take this chance to congratulate you for being elected the Speaker of the House. I also want to take this opportunity to thank the people of Laikipia North Constituency for electing me as the first Member of Parliament since Independence. view
  • 23 Apr 2013 in National Assembly: On the Presidential Address, I want to talk about four issues. First, it is about land. In Laikipia North Constituency, where I come from, land is an issue. We have about one million hectares of land owned by settlers and the pastoral communities who live there; the Samburu and the Pokot have been squatters since Independence. We have never had even a title deed. So when I saw in the Address that His Excellency had mentioned the issue of land, I believed there was a lot to be addressed in the issue of land. view
  • 23 Apr 2013 in National Assembly: The second issue is about agriculture. I can see a very good Address that has put a lot of stress on agriculture. But as a pastoralist, I can see the issue of livestock has been forgotten. I believe that about 10 million Kenyans depend on livestock or pastoralism even in Nairobi. The nyama choma business employs more than one million people within Nairobi. I believe this is an area that is productive, especially the northern parts of the country such as Laikipia, Samburu, Isiolo and Marsabit. We also need to enhance this sector--- view
