  • 21 Jun 2018 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, your ruling cannot be challenged. However, you need to guide this House because it cannot be a House where people come to spread rumours by saying that they “heard”. That is the shortcut to besmirching peoples’ names; that people will always stand here and say, “I heard some weird thing”. It is not honourable at all for a Senator and Member of this House to stand here and tell us about what he heard. Supposing we also tell him what we hear about him? view

  • 14 Jun 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Sen. Abshiro raised a matter of great national importance. I am surprised that after her statement, we moved on with business of the House as usual. This country is riding on an impossible debt portfolio at the moment. If we are assembling vehicles in this country, why would you want to import assembled vehicles? This cuts across many sectors of our economy because there are so many things that happen here. Yesterday, I heard farmers in Mwea complaining that they have nowhere to sell their rice, yet we are importing rice from Pakistan. There is a madness somewhere which must be curbed. Mr. Speaker, Sir, ... view
  • 29 May 2018 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am happy that Sen. (Prof.) Kamar brought this issue because today it was top on our agenda in our committee meeting. In fact, we have asked the Ministry to come and explain to the Committee what exactly is happening. I concur with the other contributors that this is not a new problem. The issue about the NCPB has been there for some time. As we talk about the large-scale farmers, I know that small-scale farmers, not necessarily in the north rift but the rest of the country including the Speaker’s county, cannot deliver their maize. ... view
