  • 21 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: It is unfortunate to imagine a situation where you are in your compound and somebody somewhere is watching what you are doing, saying, behaving or walking. I think it is important that we protect the fundamental rights which are enshrined in the Bill of Rights in our Constitution by ensuring that even if these Regulations will ever come back they must fit within the confines of the law and be acceptable. view
  • 21 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: As I finish, I want to say, it is unfortunate that these Regulations have good things but we have no other option but to annul them in entirety. Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. view
  • 20 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for this opportunity to also contribute on the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2018. I first want to begin by saying that Kenyans are highly taxed. As a country the tax regime is overburdening our population. We pay tax on almost everything. We pay Pay as You Earn (PAYE) on our salaries, when you fuel your car, you pay the fuel levy, when you buy food there is taxation in it, VAT, Excise Duty and so many others. Tax is okay because that is what we require to run the country because the economy needs ... view
  • 20 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: creeping into this country where people believe that they will succeed or get rich by luck. Our youths are getting destroyed. Every time there is a game that is being played, they bet. When we were young, we used to enjoy sports as young men. But now the young people are not just enjoying the game, they are actually betting. So almost everything that we are doing in this country has become a way where people are gambling their lives away. There are young men who are spending all their pocket money from primary through to universities, to the business ... view
  • 20 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: I am happy that this Bill proposes to increase taxation on winnings the people get. But when I read the Report from the Committee, it is quite discouraging and I think we need to be careful how we word this. It says, first and foremost, that these measures reflect the Government’s intention to benefit from the growing betting industry through additional tax collection. We should not, as a country, be saying that we want to benefit from a vice, something that we know is not helpful. We should not be glorifying the fact that the Government is going to get ... view
  • 19 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Listening to this debate about the lacing of sugar in this country, I am beginning to wonder. Kenya is a very insecure country and we have to pass through metal detectors. I do not know The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. • 19 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: whether serious sugar consumers will manage. Kenya is an agricultural country yet our farmers remain some of the poorest in the world. One of the reasons our farmers are suffering is because of corruption. Money is stolen for things that are supposed to be their input and dealers replace farmers in doing the work the farmers are supposed to be doing. Recently, you saw that maize farmers have been replaced by dealers in the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB). Now, instead of the Kenyan farmers producing sugar, the little import that is supposed to be a substitute has become ... view

  • 13 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. When we debated the Budget yesterday, there are two proposed amendments that the House rejected. At the end of the day, when the Chairperson was reporting to the Speaker, the Leader of the Majority Party was asked to second the Motion of the Report. He stood and told the House and Kenyans at large that basically those two rejections were an exercise in futility. He said that not only will he recommit them, but there is no money whether we pass money for roads or not. So, what is the purpose then of these ... view
  • 13 Jun 2018 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I also wanted to support this money to the EACC. We just heard that Zambian MPs are in Kenya to learn how to fight corruption in their country. Maybe there is something good they are doing here that we do not know about. Let us support them. view
