We have the responsibility to be our brother’s keeper. For avoidance of doubt, I want to refer this House to the Report of the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Affairs. From 1992 to 1995, 50 officers were sent to the former Yugoslavia. From 1995 to 1996, 20 officers were sent to Bosnia and Herzegovina. From 1999 to 2002, 40 officers were sent to East Timor. Senegal is also sending its troops there. We are a global nation. We are an international community. When the world is not safe, we are not safe. Some gangs are terrorising locals in Haiti. Women are raped. Children are kicked out of their houses. Our police officers will give support to the Haiti police, train them and secure critical infrastructure. In light of what the Cabinet Secretary has alluded to on community engagements and using them to find lasting peaceful solutions, I would like to hear from him what his ministry is doing about proliferation of small and illegal firearms in the North. This is owing to the fact that we cannot be lied to that a man who cannot put food on his table can buy brand new AK-47 or G3 rifles. I want the Cabinet Secretary to tell us whether they have done enough investigations to unravel and know the real people behind the ... view
