  • 20 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Long time ago during those days of slavery, people used to come and put Africans in groups. They would then select and say: “You are the strongest. You, Midiwo, you look like you have eaten a lot of fish. Let me take you so that you can work in our country.” view
  • 20 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Nowadays, they come to camps, put those athletes in camps and then choose and say: “You appear the strongest. Come and run for me.” That is called “modern day slavery”. We need to protect our athletes from such people who take and leave them out there. view
  • 20 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: We need to protect our athletes against harassment from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). Right now, athletes who participated in international events ten years ago are being sent letters asking them to pay taxes. Where was KRA ten years ago? We need to protect our athletes against double taxation. I have run in America and 30 per cent tax is taken by the Government while 15 per cent is taken by the agent. When I come view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise to support this report with one caution that we need to be careful, as a country, when we are vetting these foreign judges, so that we do not import corruption instead of fighting it. We need to be very aware that this is a sovereign and independent country. We need to have faith in our judicial system. We do not need judges from outside to come and vet our people. It is very hard to vet somebody from outside the country. Anybody can write and send a CV. If you are just vetting ... view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the following Motion:- THAT, noting the tragic events that occurred at the Boston Marathon where two bombs went off, killing and injuring a number of people; aware that there were Kenyan athletes also present at the event who had no established network of reporting in to confirm their status; view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I would like to give hon. Chepkonga some two minutes to contribute. view
  • 19 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, let me thank the hon. Members of this House for the support they have given this Motion. As we have all said and heard today, our athletes are assets of this country. We cannot say enough of that, but our country is not taking care of her biggest asset. We have a lot of athletes who are suffering. We do not even know where they are. There are athletes who go to the US and other countries and suffer because their agents have left them on their own. We need to protect and support them. ... view
  • 5 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you so much for the chance. First of all, I support the Motion. I think this Motion by Chris Wakhungu comes at the right time and we need to act fast. I was in Cherengany recently and farmers were asking about the top-dressing fertilizer which is needed about this time and it is not there. I think by setting up an independent body to deal with the fertilizer importation, first of all, it takes away the liability. I think the reason why we have been having delays is because fertilizer comes in through NCPB and because NCPB has somebody ... view

  • 15 May 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to give notice of the following Motion:- THAT, noting the tragic events that occurred at Boston Marathon where two bombs went off killing and injuring a number of people; aware that there were many Kenyan athletes -I present too - also present at the events, who had no established network of reporting into confirmed status; deeply concerned that there was no mechanism available to account for the safety and wellbeing of each member of the Kenya athletics delegation, this House urges the Government to establish a register or other mode of tracking and accounting ... view
  • 9 May 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you hon. Chairlady for giving an opportunity. I rise to support the amendment, I am very happy that finally the county government is getting money. I think for us in this country to achieve the Vision 2030, we need to empower the county government. For a couple of years in my life I lived in a country where it uses devolved government. For it to go on, it needs all the funds. Especially right now as they kick start the duties--- I come from Trans Nzoia and I went to visit the governor but found that he does not ... view
  • 25 Apr 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you hon. Speaker. First, of all, let me say I am honoured to have been given an opportunity by God, to first of all represent my constituency in this House, and secondly to be able to represent my country and you all, as members of Parliament, at the just concluded Boston Marathon. view
