  • 3 Jul 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I want to second this Motion by stating the fact that this is an area which has been of concern to many Kenyans including leaders. I remember a similar thing came up in the Ninth Parliament. Motions can be passed at times but if the relevant agencies including Government do not think of ways to enforce them, that becomes a problem. The Pensions Department, for instance, is a stone throw-away from the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC). If any of us walked over there, they would find what Sen. Obure is trying to bring ... view

  • 27 Jun 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, we need a response from an authoritative Government source. We need a report from the Chairperson of the Committee. As the tradition is, he will be speaking, having got information from the actual source. This is a matter of national concern. I do not know if my Sister from Wajir County and Sen. Karaba will be able to handle the matter at committee level. Mr. Speaker, Sir, could you give us some directions on this issue? view
  • 27 Jun 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, what I meant is that I am sure they will deliberate on this matter as a Committee. However, we need a serious undertaking from either the Chair or the Vice Chair or from a member of the Committee who will be held responsible. view
  • 18 Jun 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I wish to join my colleagues in supporting this Motion by Sen. (Dr.) Wilfred Machage. This is really a very important Motion for all of us and the whole country. Madam Temporary Speaker, the truth of the matter, as stated by a number of my colleagues, is that Kenya as a country and its leadership through successive governments have been fighting from Independence – what they told us from childhood – ignorance, disease and poverty. For instance, ignorance in places where I come from, unlike in Central, is at 30 per cent today. In about ... view
  • 13 Jun 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to thank Sen. Haji for the Statement. But there are a few things that do not add up in that it, particularly with regard to deployment of forces across our borders to Somalia. In fact, the only West African country that has contributed a small contingent of armed personnel is Sierra Leone. The fact that the Deputy President went to visit Congo Brazaville, Nigeria and Gabon really, if it was of any interest to this nation and with regard to issues that relate to the AU or AMISOM, in particular, he should have consolidated his ... view
  • 13 Jun 2013 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, one more comment, if you will allow me. view
  • 13 Jun 2013 in Senate: Thank you for the guidance, Mr. Speaker, Sir. Could he clarify what the intentions were with regard to the movement? Finally, my last comment is, it is even cost-effective to use the air force planes. Why did the Deputy President chose to fly on that jet? Why did he not use the commercial airlines? We need to save money for this country. Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. view
  • 13 Jun 2013 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I want to go one step further. We have understood what you said. From the inception of this House, when we started we said that we are all learning. In the past, practice demanded Cabinet Ministers to come to the Floor and they were asked Questions. Now that they have been replaced by Chairmen of the various committees, particularly with regard to the majority side that runs Government. Authenticity is one thing; just like Sen. Haji was responding he said that this is from the office of the Deputy President. That is ... view
  • 11 Jun 2013 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I want to join my colleagues who have spoken on the matter and share with them their sentiments. Honestly, what we have witnessed the last few weeks, even before we went on recess with regard to the manner in which the National Assembly has handled matters not necessarily on the Division of Revenue Bill, but on matters that touch on the reputation of the august House has not been good. I want to thank my colleagues, particularly those from the Majority side, who have strongly come out to defend the integrity of the Senate. They ... view
